Got in the new Cervelo RCA!

We got in a size 54cm RCA today. Definately looks different than past R series designs. The main tubing is smoother and allows for internal routing. Ours came in a 630g without all of the frame parts. Kinda want to build it with Di2, but for weight weenie purposes might go with Sram Red. Really stoked though to actually get out and test it!

I didn’t even notice they were doing internal routing!

The new DA Di2 is supposed to be about as light as anything out there when using the seat tube battery and taking cables and housings into account.

Especially for the RCA, a lot of the new Reds weight advantage comes from the BB30 version crank which wont fit the RCA. Still when it come to the top line parts I think whichever shifter fits your hand is the way to go, everyting these days shifts pretty well at the upper end

What number out of the 325 or so is it?

I thinking doing the di2 and maybe having the x-dome cassette would be a light combo. good ol’ zero gravity brakes also!

Wheels?

perhaps not the lightest option but I kinda like the american classic road tubeless setup… 1295g for a clincher tubeless. I have some Dt Swiss tubulars also.

Thats about the lightest clincher option. Whats your over under on final weight. I figure mid 12 or so.

Always do weight weenie bikes with tubies!
At least for internet weight posting purposes!

DT swiss tend to make pretty solid wheels, I wouldn’t be surprised if the weight is a push.

we should aim for sub 12. 3T LTD all the things.

But hopefully without their graphics.

What does the fork weigh?

curious also, but its going to be 300 g plus or minus. Its weird when you think that the frame weighs about 2x what the fork weighs.

you are missing a couple of things, like a fork, headset, seat post…

I’ve always wanted a cervelo, but I have to say that the rya doesn’t really do it for me - I like a bit of colour on my bikes. One of my clients brought in his daughter’s custom painted black, hot pink, white and red t3 the other day, and it looked amazing. A fully matt black bike though… it just looks like they forgot to paint it. same with the new cannon dales, same witht he BOB pinarellos.

Frame and fork will be under 1000 grams, a typical paint job, like on the Liquigas Cannondales would add about 200 grams or 20 % of the total weight. No big deal on a “normal” frame but a bit of a sin on a weight weenie bike.

Its nice to weigh frames consistently no matter how you do it. So if ATC wants to compare frames for consumers, as long as they always do it without fork, headset, etc; then at least you’re comparing apples to apples. Further, most of the stuff not included can be after market.

I’d be curious to know what the cable stops and rear derailleur hanger weigh. To me, thats how frames should be weighed. Because they are specific to the frame, whereas headset, and fork could be replaced. No one is going to use a different rear hanger or cable stops.

makes sense. Attaching the frame specific parts would give a true weight.

Although, if they were truly going for weight, why would they attach a braze to the seat tube? or is the tubing so thin that clamping it would break the frame?
