An old IM tattoo thread was dug up and this was mentioned…but it really deserves it’s own thread don’t you think?
Wait, why did I go an extra 70.3 miles if you only need 70.3 to get the tattoo?
Crap.
Good for him.
Who cares if he gets an Ironman tattoo?
i did read that he is doing Kona this year as well.
He has run at least 10 marathons … so this is not a surprising progression. Plus his buddy Joe Bastianich is an IM so that likely fueled the desire.
Ummm, finishing time of 7:49!? I hope he was in a later wave or something that means he had a better time than that. I’m generally not critical of people times, especially with the miserable times I put up but I was faster than that.

Just looked it up. He finished in 6:30-ish. Looks like he had a good walk for a mile or more later on the run.

6:38 actually, according to the article but I’m sure he could have been faster than that…Screaming at the aid station volunteers about the shit quality of the food probably cost him 30 mins at least.

Who is he? Is he famous for something?
Good for him.

Part of me agrees with you but the other part feels its appalling. In the real world an IM tattoo means nothing, but for me its the principle. Titles are earned. Getting an IM tattoo and not actually doing one reminds me of the bullshit artists I’ve met in life who get by excel in life via half truths and exaggerations. The guy who went to Vietnam but was born in 1960, or the manager that brags about never going to college but somehow has a Master’s Degree on his old resume.
Maybe he’s naive to the difference, maybe he has no integrity. It doesn’t affect my life either way.
There’s literally millions of people who cheat their way to something they didn’t earn. It’s happening right this very moment somewhere I’m sure.
That said - he’s getting an Ironman tattoo after completing an event that meant a ton to him. It’s his body - his tattoo. I doubt he’s going to go “Oh yeah, here’s my tattoo - its here to commemorate all the 140.6s I’ve done. I’m such a badass, look at me!”
That said, he’s doing Kona this year isn’t he? He finishes that, is it ok for him to get a tattoo then?
It doesn’t matter either way to me. No one should care about this.
The article says he’s getting one, but doesn’t say when. Perhaps he was just making a general statement about getting one, with the intention of getting one after Kona.

Sure if he gets one after Kona, by all means!

The 46-year-old father of four explained that after finishing the exhausting Iron Man World Championship race in Las Vegas, Nevada, which he completed on a minimal 3 hours’ sleep, he was planning an inked celebration to commemorate his efforts*.*

Good on him - Celebrity chefs are not the first group that come to mind when thinking of fitness and sporting achievement even though life in a commercial kitchen is no physical walk in the park. If it inspires a few more people to get off the couch, out of the kitchen & out the door then all power to him.
In far more exciting news, I did 200m of 'fly in the pool last night for the first time in my life!! - think I’ll go get a tattoo to celebrate. May be a nice little butterfly tramp stamp, right above my butt…

Yes, which could mean a nice squid dish:
