Goose bumps when I am hot?

During my last couple of rides ( indoors 70+ deg) I have noticed that after about 45 min or so I start to get goosebumps while sweating. The only other times I have noticed this is when I have gotten the flu. I think I am getting enough fluids ( mix of watter / cola / perform). I have done the sweat rate thing, weighing before and after and think I am pretty close. To add to my confusion, I have gone for runs outside 80+deg after both these rides and the goosebumps are nowhere to be found. I looked this up on the interweb and found several supposed causes for this. The salt drying out on my body and it cooking quicker?? That does not sound right but… I also read one that I am loosing too much sodium, but I dont understand why the goosebumps.

Anyone know what may be causing this, ever had this problem, have suggestions on what to do.

Thank

Do you have a fan cranking on you? I’ve experienced this before and I think it was from over cooling if there is such a thing.

nope no fan.

Bumps like that are a sign you’re overheating.

In general, if the purpose of the indoor workout is to increase your power (as opposed to your ability to deal with heat or perhaps just riding to loosen up), you should not have sweat falling off you. A little on the skin is OK, but it should be evaporating, not dripping. This is analogous to riding on a flat road in moderate weather. At most workout intensities You need a cold room and/or big fan to achieve this.

What JT10000 said. I get goose bumps right before the bottom drops out.

No a good reaction to exercise, BTW.

my understanding is that reaction is a precursor to serious heat illness. You mentioned you use no fan indoors? You need a large fan that moves enough air to dry most of the sweat you produce.

Sounds like a sweat rash, although you didn’t say red and itchy.

Could be an allergic response to indoor equipment that needs to be sanitized. To test this idea, try using antibiotic soap on the areas that develop the “goosebumps” before you exercise.
