Good TT Bike for tall guy

I am helping a friend, measuring nothing less than 6´5" (195 cm) with loooong legs - looking for his first TT bike.

Can anybody recommend any brand/models which would be a natural choice?

Also - is there any brands (eg. Argon 18 biggest model i Large, not XL) that does not make frames THAT big ?

Thanks a bunch - Tom

There should be several models that will fit him…esp if he is mostly legs as that will be more of a seatpost adjustment vs. top tube. Cervelo makes a 61 for starters in both agressive and less aggressive model

Just because a company uses tshirt-style sizing and “large” is their biggest size doesn’t mean it won’t fit him. I’m 6’6" and on a large Giant Trinity Advanced, though if your friend is long legged, that’s probably not the bike for him. I tend to have the opposite problem of longer arms/torso, so sorry I can’t be much help with specific recommendations.

Check out cervelo. They’ve got a good sizing for taller people. I thinks it’s mostly top tube length that is compatible. I’m 6’4" with short legs and used to ride a QR I got from Inside-Out -Sports. They’re good guys and I reccomend them.

Blue, Shiv & Speed Concept would be where I started.

Lots of us giraffe types on Scotts, Blue and to a lesser degree Specialized. The inclusion of aerobatic risers also helps to add stack.

I have 5’11" legs and a 2" torso and ride a Plasma Premium

I’m the same size with long legs. Go for the P2 in size 60.

Just because one is tall, do not assume you need a larger than life frame. I found this out when I bought my bike from Ves. I am 6’5". Sent him my measurements and he fitted me on
a standard 59 frame. Fits like a glove.

P2
Look 576
Cannondale Slice

Not mega bling but all big head tubes. The 576 has the biggest of the lot.

I’m 6’5" and like my 61 Felt S22.

Like others have said, height isn’t a good indicator of bike size. I’m 6’4"+ and I typically fit best on 58cm frames that are long/low.

For example, look at the Shiv Tri because of stack considerations I would be forced to go with a M (like Rappstar, another relatively tall dude).
.

Take a look at the stack and reach tables. I am also tall (6’3") with long legs and can ride many frames comfortably. Start with fit coordinates and go from there.

Just go get fit. The differences between everyone can rule in our out certain sizes and manufacturers. I’m 6’4" and ride a 58 Felt.

(eg. Argon 18 biggest model i Large, not XL)
6’4", 89KGs on argon 18 e114 ‘large’ - like a glove, one stiff beast for big guys.
other big freaks riding it include(d ?) ain alar juhanson @195cm and 94KGs
also trjobeon sindballe who I think is about 193cm
Not saying it will fit your mate or its the best bet for him - just echoing what others are saying re. getting measured / fitted…

x2 - get a fitting and then your friend will not be gambling on a bike size.

Can’t disagree with the suggestion of having someone fit you.

As another data point, I’m 6’4" with a 38" inseam and fit on a 61 cm P2C. I was surprised at how much seat mast they shipped it with. I do move the saddle forward with a Arione Tri 2 saddle to shorten the cockpit just a bit.

Fit is one thing - availability is another, e.g. my experience with Cervelo when I was buying was that the wait time for a 61cm P2 was looong, 61cm P3 not so long. So having some schedule flexibility helps.

I am 6 3 and am just about all legs. I’m on a size large Blue Triad EX. Fits me perfectly.

The biggest thing is to have him go and get fitted. He might prefer to ride super steep and could make a longer/lower frame work for him. But until that fit happens… We all are just speculating.
