Who makes a good Tri Short for Iron distance races? I’ve heard that Zoot Ultra is good. What else?
check out the 2XU “endurance” stuff…great pad, freakin awesome
.
I’ve had Zoot, 2XU, Speedo, and a few others, but the one I feel is the best for comfort, support, and drying is by FAR the Desoto.
The Desoto Power Tri short (the longer one) is my favorite tri short (for any distance actually). I think it’s been replaced by the Desoto Forza, which I haven’t tried yet.
oomph are freakin awesome
.
The two I have used and love 'em both:
2XU Long Distance Tri Short
DeSoto Low Rise tri short
Note that the DeSoto low rise tri shorts do not have pockets, but, I have never used tri short pockets in a race, tri top pockets yes, but, not tri short pockets.
2xu long distance short - really comfortable
Desoto 4 pocket - just as comfortable
zoot ultra - i really like these shorts, i just wish they were a little longer
.
I have had great luck with Desoto gear. (esp long shorts) Plus the company/customer service is top notch.
I agree with the De Sotos…I like the Forzas so much I’ve started wearing them on my long runs and plan on wearing them in an upcoming 50k! And they are comfortable on the bike (at least as comfortable as any shorts are for 112 miles)!
Talk to me about the Forza “Low Rise”. I like the Low Rise idea but don’t want something where I’m going to be showing crack everytime I get down in the aerobars.
gotta vote again for oomph - their long distance short. I drink the desoto coolaid in just about every circumstance, but the pad in the oomph shorts and the awesome compression properties of the fabric is just the best. they are just as comfy as the desoto 400 mile short for long rides, but are totally runnable.

I have always maintained the stance of just saying no to crack. That being said, I wear the DeSoto low rise with no problem. They are not THAT low that you should be showing crack. They hang on the hips like jammers. I find them much more comfortable than most other tri shorts.
The best pad in the market is Oomph! Plus they have great compression, I have worn alot and love Oomph. Be sure to get the 3 3 piece Distance Pad featuring NAC Technology (Lava and Kilauea models).
These shorts rock!
Oomph! Lava.
Another vote for DeSoto. Just got the new Forza 4-pocket AND the low-rise. SUPER comfortable.
Dittos on the 2xu endurance. Lame colours though.
The De Soto stuff is pretty choice as well.
I used the Desoto 4 pocket shorts last year and will use them again this year. In 2006, I used the basic TYR shorts and had no problems at all.
