Good options for indoor bike storage in carpeted place?

So I have to move and unlike my current place which has indestructible marble flooring, my new place has well to wall carpeting:P Right now I’m using one of those wall leaning racks that holds to bikes one on top of each other right now, you know the standard with arms that you hang the bike on by it’s top tube. I’m thinking I have to protect the carpet in this new place and between me and my roommate we have 5 nice bikes, a P3sl, Felt F3c, Felt F65, Guro Chrono Alu, and my Yeti ASR-sl mountain bike all which do not like living outside and are afraid of rain and thieves much like 5 spoiled pets;)

So I’m thinking of making some “transition racks” of the sort they use at some races, IM Kona for example that hold bikes side by side by resting the back tire in a slot. I’ll place this in the living room and put it on a piece of plastic, or maybe a carpet remnant to that any stuff that falls off the bike stays there and doesn’t get on the surrounding carpet.

Any comments or suggestions from people who have worked this or other carpet solutions well?

But the new place has a Jacuzzi! Now if only I can figure out how to make that into an ice plunge for after my workouts…

This probably will look wierd in any room other than a garage, but maybe something like this. It would be cheap but it doesn’t look to great.

yeah, we’re making somthing like that already but a bit more compact, sorta like these wooden racks shown in the pic here.

I figure these will take up a minimum of space and look pretty neat too. If we make them at an angle maybe we can save even

more room… Thanks for the tip though:)

I have one of these and it works great. It also looks alot better than 2 x 4s. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007XQML6/002-2600166-4263260?v=glance&n=3375251

You sure that you & the blonde gal didn’t grab each others’ bikes?

.

The carpet remnant is a good idea but wetness could leak through… another idea might be to mount some pergo flooring on some plywood and lay it on the carpet…might look kind of nice.

What are these bikes doing to get the carpet dirty? Mine just sit in the hallway on the carpet.

I use a floor mounted rack for 4 bikes, and some black industrial carpet.

Tai, why not get some rubber sheeting similar to that used for use under home trainers like Cyclops use? Better than carpet and easier to clean.

NICE, yeah, yeah, that’s what I need! Hmm, to buy or to make the floor rack… Thanks!
