Looking for a good place to ask some questions and kick around some ideas about VO2 max, muscle oxygen flux, myoglobin, lactate, LT and some other concepts in relation to some recent publications. Since getting my PhD in 1995 I have been serving as a Naval Officer and am terribly out of date on some of these concepts. Recent reading of a series of articles has me a bit puzzled. I was hoping to find a place to ask some questions of some folks who would be more up to date in their reading.
Any suggestions? I have not been able to find anything yet. Thanks in advance…
ST forum is not a bad place to start! Lot’s of discussion here. Oh by the way, can you give me a quick summary of the best way to increase the number and size of my mitochondria, I need more for the '07 season… : )

I agree. We have some knowledgeable people posting here. Try posting on subject of the articles and why they puzzled you. That said, you have a PHD in physiology, I think, so maybe you want something more indepth. Did you do a search on VO2 max etc. you might fine something helpful.
This is a slow week on the forum. You might get more of a response on your thread next week.
I think it is going to be much more in depth than is usually discussed on this forum. There are a few here that would be up for that level of discussion, but most would not be interested I’m afraid. After lurking here for years, I don’t think this is the place. There used to be some e-mail lists that I subscribed to as a grad student that had some excellent discussions of muscle physiology and metabolism. They were frequented by PhD students and researchers. I was looking for something along those lines. Thanks…
On the Yahoo discussion groups Sportscience is good at times, but not nearly as active as it was in the late 90’s. Also on Yahoo theissn group is frequently interesting for nutrition topics, and more active than Sportscience. I don’t recommend the Supertraining group- too much I think/feel/do and not enough science base for my taste.
yet, here he is! On vacay, so there is some time for posting. To the question: I’m not aware of such a forum, but if you find one, I’d love to know. The wattage forum formerly found on topica (now on google) has a ton of good info in it, but it is all in the context of cycling, and wattage, obviously.
if you’re trying to get up to speed on the current concepts (the “lactate isn’t a bad molecule” story comes to mind), you can enter ‘review’ into your pubmed search and get some articles to get you started. EDIT: just saw you are past that… sorry about that. Why doncha put up those questions up here? could for some interesting reading.
On this forum (a great ex phys resource but it is a little time consuming to wade through the muck), knowledgeable guys with Ex Phys degrees are Andy Coggan and S McGregor. Many of the coaches have their ducks very much in a row as well (Brian, Paulo, trukweaz aka Kurt Perham), while some others clearly do not.
Lastly, i always refer people to McArdle, Katch and Katch’s Exercise Physiology text (in its 6th Edition i believe), and the M.A.P.P. web site home.hia.no/~stephens/exphys.htm – it is down right now, but when it is up, it is good.
Have fun! Josef
Mike,
PM JoB. he just finished his thesis in exercise physiology and may have some resources. I know he is rarely posting to ST anymore.

Sure…here are some ideas.
stress/overload (bonus points for naming the guy who came up with that term!)
I don’t know if this is much help, but it’s what I found through Google. http://www.asep.org/forum
Sorry, it’s not letting me post this as a quick link.
