Going to Maui where to hike?

So I’m going to Maui from June2-16. I would like to know of some awesome hikes/runs that are “roads less traveled”. Do any locals or anyone else know of some killer hikes, surf spots, paddle board spots??? How about fishing spots. Really looking for fun areas, hopefully not packed with tourist. ( I know I’m one but don’t like them)HA!! My father in law and I are going to ride up the cycle to the sun course. Anyone want to join??

Thanks

I have no advice for you, but i went to Maui a few years ago and it was badass, we trashed…TRASHED the rental car getting to this obscure beach, it was gorgeous. You will have a great time.

The crazy part is have gone for the past 6 years but I usually just drink and hangout on the beach and surf the whole time. This time we want to explore the island. I know someone out in ST land has some killer advise. Come on!!!

My wife and I did the road to Hana. There are TONS of cool waterfalls off of the beaten path if you know where to go. Several have associated swimming holes. None of the hikes are long or severe but they are wet and slippery and fun. We found all of these though a book called “Maui off of the beaten path” or something similar. The problem is that the road to Hana itself is off of the beaten path and so anything you do along that route will take quite a bit of time out of your day depending on what your vacation plans are. Black and red sand beaches, the Charles Lindberg grave and several other cool things are there. Most people that do the road to Hana take a bus so if you take your own car you will be able to see some cool stuff away from the crowds and get yelled at by locals because you drive like an idiot.

What do I know though. I am a one time visitor and a tourist.

You could stay closer to home, get a solid quarter bag to take with you while you hike a local trail, and buy a new bike with the money that you save.

If you live close to a humid forrest, you can easily imagine that you’re in HI if your stuff is good.

Thats funny but the wife would kill me and i love traveling we are closing on our house the day we land!! How jacked up is that paying for a house for 2 weeks that we will never see. On another note we Just hiked to a killer waterfall in the wine country. My inlaws have been here for 20 years and never knew about it. I totally get it but family always comes first.
Any locals on that can add some info??

I lived on Oahu in 2000, but never made it to Maui. I hear that it’s awesome. One of my friends did some mtn biking there and said it was killer. I’m sure that the hiking is along some of the same trails and that it’s excellent.
