Going to Jackson Hole what bike to bring?

Will be in Jackson Hole for 4 days. I have a road, tt, mtb, could get a gravel if needed. Not going to do the TT so taking that off the list.

Will have every day till 3pm to ride: what the best bike to bring can only bring one.

I also dont know the area so anyone have advice on where to ride???

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I’ve got a buddy who lives there (Wilson), and is always posting pretty nice rides on Strava on his roadie. I’d just check the hot routes on Strava for road bikes. That being said, Jackson Hole mountain has some good MTB trails too.

When are you going to be there, that will determine a lot. I was there last weekend and higher elevations got more snow. The crowds aren’t bad, yet. Starting early June it gets very very busy and finding rides outside of Jackson will be more enjoyable. It is not the safest place to ride on roads, but they have a great paved trail network if you aren’t concerned about throwing down mega watts and structured workouts. If you can pop over to “Driggtor” area the MTB scene is very solid there, but once again depends on your time of year and snow/mud. Call some of the LBS or get on their websites and they will have trail conditions and give you better beta on what it is like right now.

My big recommendation is to ditch Jackson and Drive out to Moose Junction or Hatchet Lodge and do Togwotee Pass ride into Dubois for pie at Cowboy Cafe and then head back over the pass, that is a great ride! Once, again a lot depends on time of year. Grizzlies are still out hanging around the pass as they are just about everywhere now with spring being sprung.

In Teton Village hotels seems to be at bottom of ski resort.

When? There are bike paths from the village back into town and then out past the elk refuge for road. You can do the Village to Moose ride that has some gravel that is scenic, but knock that one out early since it is narrow and can get a lot of tourist traffic, which means they aren’t always focused on driving and doing sight seeing while driving. You can do that route and link up with the elk refuge bike path for a nice loop. There is the 100 mile loop that goes out through Alpine into Idaho and over Teton Pass, which is a classic.

To get away from the crowds do the Togwotee ride. I recommended it to a guy last year on here and he was hesitant and decided to do it the last day or two he was there and he said he wished he would have done it earlier, it was more enjoyable than the other rides around Jackson, he said. You are going to be at 7k in elevation so I am sure you understand that it might be 35 degrees in the morning and 70 that afternoon and rain might turn to snow and snow to hail. Spring time in the Rockies is awesome but very diverse.

2.5 weeks… yes this sounds nice!

Watching some you tube videos seems like gravel riding might be the least of whats up there?

Thinking maybe bring a road bike do this ride your talking about one day then rent a MTB and do that the next day? But need to call some shops see how muddy things are.

Weather should be great then and stuff should be drying out nicely! Fitzgerald’s in Victor is a great shop and would trust them 100%
