I’m the pilot for the American national para tandem team. We did aero testing this week, and yielded some wildly low CdA’s across multiple tests. For reference, our drivechain efficiency is 0.96, our crr is 0.0012, and our watts/CdA for an hour is between 2900-3200 (If you are interested I can give more specifics privately, and the MATLAB scripts if you really want).
The current tandem hour record was set in 1997 at 49.625 km.
Ganna’s hour record is 56.792 km of course.
We’re spitting out numbers above 58, I think with a little bit of development (0.01-0.02) we can push 60.
Obviously line deviation is a problem on the tandem, but I’m working on modelling that.
We have the package, looking for some backing. We currently have Vittoria, Velovetta (shoutout!), and wove, but getting commissaires and a track rented out is a few dollars past our college student budget. Also any expertise related to SLS printing, performance modelling, or CFD would be helpful (RANS, DDES, LES).
