Goggle marks

Everytime I swim I look like someone made 2 big circles with a red marker around my eyes when I get out of the pool. It’s embarrassing going into the office in the morning and/or having a morning meeting looking like a raccoon. Any thoughts/suggestions on how to relieve the issue of goggle markers, what are the best goggles to use to prevent it? I currently use Barracuda’s and love the fit but hate the markers. Thanks

Can you loosen them? I use Aquasphere and they never feel tight or leave marks.

Seal mask. I bought one for racing when they were all the rage a few years back. But only use it for training now. No goggle marks around the eyes.

I found barracudas to have the least amount of affect of this…one thing I do is soon as I get out of the water, I put lotion all around my eyes. I don’t know if it helps the rings but at least it helps the dry chlorine drying effect on my skin…otherwise, not much to tell you than its just a badge of honor for doing our sport like the linear tan lines on our thighs from bike shorts…

Swedes.

Any other goggle I use I have rings around the eye for a few hours after. With swedes, by the time I leave the pool and get to work, my eyes are normal.

I have the same problem. No lotion/cream works for me-and I’ve tried some expensive stuff. I’m going to try the mask next cus those swedes feel like they will knock my eyeball into the next lane!

Really? I had the exact opposite experience with these. I use the Seal mask for open water swimming but never for the pool (or when I have to go back to work at least). This leaves the worst (and largest) “goggle” marks from anything I’ve tried.

There you have it, a thread full of suggestions, but which is right for you? I think we all go through this… 2 dozen pair of goggles until we find the right ones that don’t do that.

I too had your same issue. I always thought I needed that big old silicone gasket for comfort but no, I figured out the gasket is what was leaving the racoon rings under my eyes for 24 hours making me look tired and sick!
I tried socket rockets… too bare on the comfort. Then I tried these… just enough silicone, leak proof, comfy and NO RACOON EYES after swimming!

Try the old foam rimmed Speedo Sprinters. They have been around forever. I think that are still $6.99! Still the most comfortable google for me, despite a begillion new ones all claiming to be so much more comfortable!

Fleck: I think they are called Speedo “Sprint” and they are my favorite, too. I’ve been wearing the same pair for about 10 years! and have only needed to replace the rear strap once. The only downside is that after 10 years of being wacked around everywhere, the plastic is just scratched enought that I think I might need new ones b/c I’m having trouble seeing the pace clock. (Could just be age too!)

With the foam kind of goggle, I find that I don’t need to wear the goggles as tight as with the silicon models that seem to be more popular now.

I also got the Lane 4 goggles with my SwiMP3 and they do leak a little, but I’m a girl and have a small face/head, so wonder if that is why.

I googled the Sprints and in the U.S. they are 6 bucks.

My theory is that we can all learn a bit from swedes - when you wear swedish goggles you wouldn’tt dare push them into your eye sockets as many people do with the silicone edged goggles, you just place them over your eyes and put the strap behind your head. Try the same approach with any other goggles, and it should work. In my past, when I had leaking goggles, I tried pushing them even harder, making the straps tighter, they still leaked and left me with 'coon eyes. Then I tried swedes - they don’t leak, then I tried some of my older goggles putting them on the same as swedes, and guess what? No leaks either. I believe if you don’t think of each lense as a suction cup you’ll get a better seal and less imprint on your face.

VISINE. gets the red out!

works on zits too.
