Goggle lens color

I read an article recently that recommended wearing clear lenses (indoor/open water) regardless of conditions. He mentioned that you would have the best visibility/clarity this way. I was just wondering what everybody else wears. I tend to wear clear/blue indoors and amber/smoked in open water.

Clear/blue usually indoors or open water. Unless the sun is liable to get in my eyes, which it usually is in the mornings- then something darker. It might cut down on the visibility in the water, but I’m not navigating by looking underwater anyway. In other words, who cares if it cuts down on visibility in the water? It increases visibility above the water.

I used both tinted and clear over the summer while racing outside, and it doesn’t seem to make that much of a difference to me. I prefer clear, just because I haven’t found glare to be much of a problem, and I like the added visibility. Inside, I don’t really have a preference, because I there isn’t a whole lot that I need to see.

All I know is that mine with blue tint made the orange buoys appear black at tupper lake.

I find that my vision adapts to whatever color I’m wearing, be it green, gray, or even red. I wonder what the red ones are supposed to be for?

I allways use the smoke lenses, no matter what I’m doing.

I think they’re to maintain your night vision at ninja triathlons.

In my first event, i went clear and the sun got to my eyes (from looking sideways). The next year, i went clear and i could barely see underwater to try to catch a draft. I then reverted to clear lenses again, and learned to use someone else as a tugboat to help me steer my way around the course. Obviously, i still look to the sides & front to sight, but i am sure that i do better using others as navigation tools too.

Chuck Norris.

Clear indoors, dark gray/smoked outdoors. My eyes are pretty sensitive to bright light.

I still prefer clear. Better contrast and more detailed landmarks. Only reason to wear tinted would be if I could get my hands on some of the decent fitting polarized ones.

For the outdoor pool, I prefer the darkest ones I can find. Somehow swimming seems more fun when it’s not nuclear blasting bright.

I had a badass pair of goggles with smoked lenses and holographic skulls visible from the outside. I lost them last time I moved. I am now sad.
