If you’re in So. Cal., and interested in human anatomy, go see the Body Worlds exibit at the Calif. Science Center in L.A. This thing is awesome. There are human bodies sliced open in very interesting ways allowing one to see the inner bits. The comparison of regular organs vs. diseased was an eye opener. As an athlete it was cool to view the body “uncovered” and see how it all works together.
The exibit closes and goes back to Europe on 1/23/05. It was very crowed when I went so I suggest getting your tickets on line.
Ditto the recommendation. They haven’t advertised it well, and we stumbled across it, but it is definitely worth an afternoon. Combined with a couple of the Imax films, makes for a good day & is interesting enough so that the kids have fun as well (plus they can climb the rock wall or ride the bike on the cable).
I have two thoughts. I have worked in this area of human preservation for 12 years. My first thought is very positive toward science. I have had the oportunity to have athletes (mostly high school age) experience what and how muscles, Ct, and bones function in concert. Very few are grossed out, most are intrigued. Second thought might be that the non science public will look at the exibits with a less than positive response. I would go and see this exibit in a heart beat if it is ever close by. Compared to the crap that is on tv this is very tame
My wife went to see it and brought home the brochures and whatnot to show me. I quite literally got dizzy and queasy. I don’t even want to hear her talk about it.
I hear you. My wife and daughter didn’t want to go after looking at the brochure. This type of thing is not for everyone. But if you’re into this type of thing, it’s worth it.
