I’m looking for a way to mount my Go Pro to the front of my bike Tri. Any thoughts? I was thinking it would be ideal to have a mount that hangs down from my aero bar carbon sticks (left or right I don’t care). Has anyone seen a good setup for this?
I think rapp had a good set up for the TOC time trial a few years back. See if he has some trick mount ideas.
Right on, I’ll keep looking around. Hopefully Rapp will see this thread and comment. I’m sure he’s relaxing after his awesome win over the weekend.
Buy 1 roll of gaffer’s tape.
Tape go-pro to bike as you see fit. The camera may have to be mounted upside down. That’s okay mpeg streamclip can rotate it so that it’s right side up.
That’s literally all you need to do.

Seriously dude, that’s the best idea you could come up with? Yeah, I’m going to tape a f’ing Go Pro to my expensive ass bike…reeeeelly? That would look so Trick, why didn’t I think of that!!! Next time I can’t find a place for something, I’ll just bust out the duct tape. If I need to carry an extra tube for example…F it…just duct tape it to my frame. Sorry to be a dick…I couldn’t help myself.
His mpeg streamclip idea is a good one. Just use the GoPro bicycle mount and attach it underneath the aerobars or stem. Then flip the video.

I was already prepared to flip the video if necessary…I appreciate you guys pointing that out though. However, I heard the Go Pro bicycle mount moves around quite a bit when you hit bumps (read all the reviews), but it seems like my only option at this point. I did a google search and can’t find anything solid. K-Edge makes a nice looking mount, but it’s more for mount bike handlebars. It would be awesome if K-Edge made a mount that went on the aero extenders.

Do you even know what gaffer’s tape is? It’s the tape that Hollywood professionals use to help secure thousands of dollars worth of lighting equipment, frames, gels, filters, etc. It essentially has the strength of duct tape, but when you remove it there’s absolutely no adhesive (in most cases). What’s great about it is that you can mount the camera in a variety of angles, and for the most part it is easier and quicker to remove than one of Go-Pro’s mounts anyways. I’ve gaffed taped a Go-Pro to a professional cyclists’ bike when he did a few European races for the U.S. national team and I use it often on my own rides. It works really well, and as a film-maker it’s some damn good advice, especially considering that I’ve used gaff tape to achieve the exact result that you are looking for. No need to be an ass when someone who literally knows what they are doing is trying to help you.

You know what doesn’t move around?
A gaff taped Go-Pro. Just saying, I’ve done it before.

I realize I was being an ass and I apologize, but I couldn’t help but laugh. It is a great idea for someone who doesn’t car about the finish of the their bike as much as I do. I’m particular about my bikes paint and don’t want a square camera strapped to it. I would never consider taping a Go Pro to the paint on my truck or car, so I’m not interested in doing it to my bike. I have a SC 9 series and the front angles of my bike aren’t ideal for taping a camera to it. I’m looking for a “mount”, not tape. Thanks though.

Wow. Very nicely done. Please continue to demonstrate your quality as a human being by denigrating people who give you useful advice - I’m extremely amused (and also bored).
Getting back to the OP…I’ve used the sticky connector pads provided with the GoPro and mounted the camera underneath my Xlab torpedo plate. Have ridden over some pretty rough roads too and not even a hint of the adhesive giving way.
I just dremelled an extra carbon extension I had lying around and fit it between my bars to mount my 705.
I previously had one of those mounts that comes off the extension itself, but didn’t like the position for keeping an eye on power.
The crossbar gives me a solid 705 mount up in front, and with a few mods a standard GoPro mount can be set directly underneath the 705.
Very stable, and the view angle is exactly what I wanted.
Forearms are tight to the bottle and Garmin, so not too bad aero-wise.
(sorry, poor pics taken at night)

I have a k-edge (good for road bike), a ram mount (heavy duty on my mountain bike, soaks up vibration well as it is a ball and socket arrangement).
The best way I have found for aerobars is the open vented gropro helmet strap, its quick easy and secure to mount/unmount between the 2 bars, put a bit of sorbathone/old innertube around where you mount to soak up the vibration and mount upside down - would send you a pic but am away from home at mo.
I use 720 setting@60fps as less ‘jello’ effect on bad roads.
Gaffers tape and Duct tape are NOT the same thing…
Duct tape is for rednecks, asshats, and hacks (and ductwork). Gaffers tape is for serious professionals and distinguished gentleman.
Perhaps you may be better suited to Duct tape.
(edited to add pink font)
Duct tape is for … ductwork).
No, it isnt…

I use the handlebar mount and hang it upside down on the aerobar. You can flip the flip the video prior to editing the video as well. Bumps don’t really affect the placement of the video in my experience. Here is a video I did a few months ago using this technique. At 0:14 - 0:30, again at 1:11 - 1:15, and then once more at 1:27 - 1:47 there are a few sections of rough road I’m travelling over.

I did the exact same thing on a ride this past Sat. Just use the bike mount and attach it to the aerobars upside down. Worked fine for me, didn’t move at all. I hit a bump hard enough to eject a water bottle from the downtube cage, but the gopro didn’t move.

Nicely done, thank you for the idea!!

I bought the handlebar mount last night. I’m going to give this a shot and look at doing the carbon spacer between my aero extensions idea too and see what I like the best. Thanks for the input!!!
