Giro Selector vs. Bell Javelin

What say you?

Looks like the Bell might be more Tri friendly with the vents and uncovered tail. I’m guessing the Bell only has one shape vs the add-ons with the Giro. Giro=Faster? Bell=Cheaper?

I could be wrong, but this is Bell’s first widely available aero helmet in the US correct? I know they had an aero helmet CSC and others were using for a while, and you could find it on eBay, but I don’t think it ever had US approval.

Giro helmets have never fit me well, but Bells always have. I am curious to try to Javelin because of that.

Yeah I think so. I guess the Bell Vortex was somewhat widely available, but that was in and around the early 90’s. It looks to me like they just tweaked the Giro Mold a little bit. I guess we’ll see once people start getting their hands on them.

catlike!

I agree, I’ve had a catlike for years (ordered from europe before they were available here) and it’s way better than anything else I’ve tried including the Giro Selector
.

Anyone heard more about the Javelin? I haven’t gotten my hands on the Selector, but have a feeling my 56ishcm head might be too big for the small and feel silly in the large; whereas the Javelin comes in 3 sizes.

Is it true the tail is uncovered on the Javelin?

Take a look at this picture. This is the most I have found on the helmet. http://www.tririg.com/galleries.php?id=2011_09_14_Interbike_Day_One&num=59

I tried both the Javelin and the Selector on at Interbike… To me it seemed like the Javelin was way easier to put on and take off. The tail is in fact un-covered.

I’ll prob be getting a Javelin at some point this offseason. IMHO the colors for the Javelin arent nearly as nice as the Selector, but I’ll prob be repainting it anyway.

Yup, you are wrong. Bell came out with the Meteor Aero helmet, pretty much the same time Giro came out with the Advantage. The Meteor was a good helmet but it only came out in one size and didn’t have a lot of availability. It was sold in the US and was CPSC approved. I had one.

.

Ah, that’s right, the one size thing.

I have a giant head so just assumed their one size would never fit me, hence from my perspective it was unavailable

I’d like to try this new helmet on, as well as Giro’s new tri shoes. Seen lots of pictures of both but no word on availibility of either.

Don’t forget Bell and Giro are owned by the same company. Some differences and some likely similarities. Lots likely to do with brand position and strategy.

I tried one on at Interbike and loved it. I literally asked the people there if I could buy one of there demos. It is very similar to the Giro except easy to put on and take off. It’s more comfortable as well as I found it didn’t contort my ears the way the Giro did. My understanding is that the Giro was meant for pure Time Trialers but the Bell is made with triathletes in mind. The was also significantly lower than the Giro. I am definitely looking into how I can get one as soon as possible.

Yeah, I know they’re owned by the same company, but fit totally different. I definitely have a “Bell head” and not a “Giro head”.

Interesting, the Bell Meteor has been available in europe for the last 5 or so years - and still is. In more than one size to boot!

It’s the same thing!
