Large Giro Ionos and Bell Volt weighs 350 grams. I haven’t tried the Bell yet to test how well it vents but, the fit is very comfortable. Surprisingly a large Bell Sweep was 50 grams lighter. Has anyone else compared and tested the two? Thanks.
I have tried them,
And it does not really matter about specs, they fit completely differently.
Your head shape will deternine the winner.
Everything I always heard has been Giros are better for round heads and Bells are better for oval shaped heads.
I have an oval shaped head and love my Bell Sweep R but am do for a new helmet. If the Volt is similar but with some improvements I will probably go that way, otherwise I’ll just get another Sweep. Giros don’t fit me at all.
Haven’t tried either of these. Have and use (large): Atmos, Sweep, and Ghisallo. All are about the same. Weights are fairly high, at least by today’s standards. I also have a Specialized D2. About 230 gms in large. Much lighter and vents better than the other three. All fit fine, but the Specialied gets more use.
my .02
I am a sales rep for Bell Sports who owns both Bell and Giro.
I got an Ionos last Fall, and wore it most of they year this year. I also used my Bell Sweep some. Bell and Giro fit completely different, Bell fits my head much better. The first thing I noticed switching from the Bell Sweep to the Giro Ionos was the amount of ventilation. The Ionos is amazing. It comes with a winter kit, which blocks some of the vents, and when it is cold, you will need it.
I got a Volt about a month ago, but I am running a marathon on Saturday and have been more in a run training mode lately. I have done a few rides in the Volt, and I am very pleased. The fit is better than my Ionos, more like the Sweep. The ventilation is very similar to the Ionos. The Bell does not include a winter kit, so I will have to make sure I have a hat with the helmet all winter, which isn’t a big deal. With both the Ionos and Volt, there is a huge improvement in ventilation over the previous top of line models, the Sweep and Atmos. This is all largely due to the exhaust venting and internal channelling, which really pulls air through the helmet, not just in. Both helmets also use the X-Static padding, which kills bacteria, and keeps your helmet from stinking. I am amazed at how well this works.
I think you would be happy with either helmet. The Volt is about $50 cheaper if that makes a difference. The performance in my opinion is very similar between the two.
