I just got a large GA2 for the Big Kahuna in a week but I’m starting to wonder if it’s too large. I’m exactly between a medium and large - 23.25" head circumference. Does anyone have experience being just between sizes on the GA2? Should I switch it out for a medium?
I’m afraid of making the same mistake I made with the LG Chrono medium and have a helmet that doesn’t fit me the day before a race. And this is my last A race until Wildflower '08…
For what it’s worth, with the roc loc fully tightened, I can put my finger in between my temple and the helmet on one side. Is that too loose?
Looks like I can answer my own question! While reading the Aero Roundup thread, I saw that dongustav said the following:
i wear medium helmets in Giro (E2 and Pneumo in the past), Garneau (Chrono) and Specialized (S1 and decibel- though I had to dent the interior a little on the Specialized helmets.) I just got a new A2 in the mail today - size Medium - and it fits perfect. I would not get a size larger. and my head is definitely a 59-60cm head, its just that i don’t like lots of padding in my helmets so I usually remove the padding and use a spoon to dent in the spots that hit my skull uncomfortable. After trying the Advantage on, i don’t think i’ll need to remove any padding or carve anything out. So it runs larger than specialized helmets & spot-on with other Giro and Garneau helmets.
dongustav – If you’re reading this, could you perhaps tell me a bit more about the fit? Have you ever tried the large? You mention that you had the medium Chrono. For my 23.25" (~60cm) head, the medium Chrono was way too small but it sounds like it fit you.
So, whats the consensus? i.e. does the GA2 run a tad “small”…I have a 22 1/4" circumference (I believe I currently wear a Medium Giro Monza) and was considering a Medium GA2 (21.75-23.25 inches)…no shops carry it around here hence an EBAY store or other E-seller. So, trying to figure out what size to buy…those that own this helmet do you have a comment?
It’s easy to buy the Giro Advantage too large. The ear portions seem to fit so darn snug, especially until you learn how to correctly don the helmet- that you are tempted to buy it too large.
Sounds like you may done that. You might want to swap it out for the next size down and at least try that.
Never tried the large but the medium really fit fine. Usually I have to take out padding in medium helmets (like the specialized decibel) in order to fit them. The LG Chrono was definitely a bit tighter than the Advantage on me. I was locked into one place in the Chrono & couldnt tip it back on my head much to get the tail down towards my back more. With the Medium Advantage, I can tip it back a bit so the tail touches my back in the aero position. The ear flaps are tight against my ear lobes, but otherwise it does not feel tight. If I were you, i’d try to find a store that carries them so you can try on the medium. Or, buy the medium online and then just sell it on ebay if it doesnt fit. Dont sell your size large until you decide, of course…
Is it really that bad? A bit on the large side but nothing too crazy, right?
On a side note, TriSports.com was fantastic in shipping me a medium to try just days before my last race and then giving me a refund for it because it didn’t fit. Awesome crew, that TriSports.com
i have always worn medium giros and i just got a GAII in medium as well. I would say that the run a bit small, it fits me just find but is more on the snug side than my everyday helmet. My one issue with the fit is that my sunglasses don’t fit so well under it, so i think i am going to need to pick up a cheap pair that has a thinner ear part.
