Girls softball team DQ'd from World Series after inappropriate photo

I have no problem with this at all. These little twits need to learn posting stupid shit on social media has consequences. Better this than missing out on or losing a job for posting some stupid shit they did.

I agree. I hope they learn now to stop posting stupid crap online. Recently I spoke with the head of a graduate program and he said he’s had to kick people out of the program the last two years because of things they posted online that were brought to his attention.

Yeah, that’s great, but that’s not what happened here. These girls were in league uniforms at a league tournament on a league field. What they did is a reflection on the team and the league. Being on the team, in the league, and at the tournament are all privileges, not rights. Those privileges come with responsibilities. The fact that so many adults in the LR cannot see that is disturbing. ** It also helps explain the pathetic parenting that resulted in these little bundles of joy not understanding any of these simple concepts**.

Actions have consequences. Lesson learned. (Hopefully …)

Agree with pretty much everything you’ve said, except the bolded text. Even the best raised kids are guilty of getting caught up in the moment, peer pressure etc. I don’t know the full story here. Is it possible that they thought it would be a private pic and one posted it?

In any case flipping the bird in a group pic surrounded by your team mates would have an insignificant correlation to so-called bad parenting.

The punishment is appropriate, more so if there are some innocent team mates, because it teaches the guilty ones that you can let down people close to you by your own stupid actions.

In hindsight, I agree with your response. For now. I would like to know how the parents respond(ed). If the parents use it as a life lesson - parenting win. If the parents dismiss it with the same gusto as some of the posters on this thread - I stand by my original statement.

It might have been wiser to suspend/expel the players in the picture. Seems a bit excessive to expel the entire team for the actions of a few bad apples.

This goes against the concept of ‘team’ in my opinion. You’re wearing the uniform and your actions affect the whole. If the girls were doing this off site, EX: at home, and not in uniform, I’d agree with you. However, they did this in the dug out while representing. You win as a team and lose as one, too. The other girls not in the picture will, hopefully, set them straight.

Nothing teaches the value of a team like having to cover the work load of a team with only half the players…

You would get a catcher, pitcher and could cover the bases. I’d feel terrible watching my teammates get pummeled because I got booted.

If you don’t DQ them, what lesson is taught? Seems to me that the lesson is that they can get away with whatever they want.

When my sister was a teen she had a verbal altercation with a cop and got arrested. Her punishment was that she had to write a letter of apology to the cop.

It seemed an appropriate punishment and she learned her lesson.

Yes, they could be told to write an essay, or do community service, or go sit in a corner…

DQ from a tournament for poor sportsmanship directly related to that tournament seems like an appropriate punishment for that tournament’s organizers to hand down on participants of that tournament.

Fair enough. I just think the DQ is a bit of an overreaction. You think it’s appropriate.

Have a good week.

My world is imploding. Once again I agree with Duffy.

I’ve said this before, you and I probably agree more than we disagree. We often just take different paths to reach the same conclusion.

And where we disagree it’s really just a matter of time for you to come around.

my daughter plays 14u softball. the girls know swearing will get you ejected from the game. this is swearing(you can pretend it is not). so if game is done and you go and start swearing at the losing team, you can’t be ejected from that game as it is over, so logical conclusion is a DQ and expulsion from the tournament. sucks for the girls that did not participate in the stupidity and the parents that drove them there. i see this as perfectly valid result. cant blame other team as this is like any ump call. if they miss one, you cant take your own justice out on other team.

You two should have a 3 way with a moose to celebrate.

Only if CC is in the middle.

While DQ could be appropriate, I would think other actions might have been more appropriate for an activity that happened outside of the game and after they had won. Only 1/2 the team participated. Why not bench those players in the first game of the finals. This assumes there is a series like the post title implies. If they can’t field a team with 6 players they forfeit the first game and then get to play in subsequent games. This seems to be more in line with penalties I have seen in youth sports. I.e. one game suspension either that year or the next for players involved. Probably reported back to their local league who may add additional game suspensions in following games or series.

That is what I am curious about as well. Unfortunately many parents these days are terrible role models and have terrible reactions to things like this. I became a cycling ref this year, had a 4-5 race where a junior racer cheated by crossing the centerline just before the finish line to get around people for the win. We are very strict about the centerline and it is no secret. He deliberately took a huge swing across the line to pass three people to get the win. Everyone saw it, called him on it and he got relegated. His bitch ass mom went fuckin nuts! She was screaming at the head official for 30 minutes after the race, he finally had to tell her to go away or face further consequences. So what does the kid do? Pisses and moans that this is bullshit, unfair, people only wanted him DQ’ed because he didn’t pull enough, etc. His parents agreed and fed into his pissing and moaning. He learned zero lessons about following rules and fair play, instead he learned to be a jackass just like his parents.

His parents finally took him home… then his mom drove back to have another go at the head official! Bitch was completely cray.

Oh and to the posters thinking 12-14 year old girls don’t know what flipping the bird is… sorry, they know full well, kids these days know a lot more than the Beaver Cleavers of your age.

I don’t know, with everything that is out there these days, who cares. My bet it was men that made the dq.

Probably white men. Might as well attempt double “ism” score. Sigh.

Guy has a role in creating bad outcome for woman. Go to explanation: Racism.

A white person has a role creating bad outcome re. a black person. Go to explanation: Racism.

Newsflash. Men are mostly pretty agreeable folks. Maybe we could give them the benefit of the doubt, eh?

The assumption if “ism” makes me want to puke.

Re. the little league rules said don’t post stupid pics of team flipping the bird on social media.

I’m sure the little girls all read the “little league social media rules” really carefully . Then a rep of the world little league federation gave them a brief that clearly defined “inappropriate” in the context of social media.

I bet no one at any level in the org had a clue what the heck the rules said about this. That someone got their panties in a wad over the pic, and that’s when they pulled the rule book out to see what it said.

I’m with you, but I’d be surprised to find that white men are in charge of softball. White women, sure. A mix? I think that’s more likely.

no, in softball like this, it is generally single or double elimination once into bracket play. just because they call it world series does not mean there is more than one game to decide who moves on. essentially ncaa march madness tournament with different name. softball is nothing like baseball. teams are never more than 12 players and you need 9 to start(8 to finish), well depending on which rules you are following.

it looks like it happened in the dugout before leaving the field, ie still part of game and part of field. just young biatches being biatches. there is no part of being disrespectful that is part of good sportsmanship, period.

a good coach would have sat them out of next game which would result in a forfeiture and elimination anyway

had a girl on daughters team yell at opposing team to drop a pop up from dugout. she sat out next game

White guys who had girls instead of boys and want something as close to baseball as possible.

So howz that dude go about deploying the ‘shocker’? Or dare I say the ‘Spocker’?

A veritable multiplicity of options, I tell ya ~ the mind boggles…

They got off easy really. In most other countries they would have been expelled, as in never play again in that league, some places never play again. Ask Hope Solo how it works out to open your mouth in a situation like this in the pro league at the Olympic Games? She lost her job, looks like for good too for uttering much less than a fuck you.

I only hope they learned a lesson, it will all hinge on what the parents take on the situation is with each of them. My guess is that a lot of them will get a poor baby, you got jobbed, its not your fault, I will write a letter, make a call, etc.

It would not go down like that in my house, and this easy lesson would be backed up and reinforced.

I thought you wrote "there are 3 ways to celebrate with a moose. ". I could only come up with 2, but then realized not all moose are boys.

Who knows, maybe because of thie severity of the punishment these girls won’t spend a month of their lives deleting social media posts…
