I agree. I hope they learn now to stop posting stupid crap online. Recently I spoke with the head of a graduate program and he said he’s had to kick people out of the program the last two years because of things they posted online that were brought to his attention.

Being on the team, in the league, and at the tournament are all privileges, not rights. Those privileges come with responsibilities. In any case flipping the bird in a group pic surrounded by your team mates would have an insignificant correlation to so-called bad parenting.
The punishment is appropriate, more so if there are some innocent team mates, because it teaches the guilty ones that you can let down people close to you by your own stupid actions.

It might have been wiser to suspend/expel the players in the picture. Seems a bit excessive to expel the entire team for the actions of a few bad apples.
This goes against the concept of ‘team’ in my opinion. You’re wearing the uniform and your actions affect the whole. If the girls were doing this off site, EX: at home, and not in uniform, I’d agree with you. However, they did this in the dug out while representing. You win as a team and lose as one, too. The other girls not in the picture will, hopefully, set them straight.
Nothing teaches the value of a team like having to cover the work load of a team with only half the players…

my daughter plays 14u softball. the girls know swearing will get you ejected from the game. this is swearing(you can pretend it is not). so if game is done and you go and start swearing at the losing team, you can’t be ejected from that game as it is over, so logical conclusion is a DQ and expulsion from the tournament. sucks for the girls that did not participate in the stupidity and the parents that drove them there. i see this as perfectly valid result. cant blame other team as this is like any ump call. if they miss one, you cant take your own justice out on other team.

While DQ could be appropriate, I would think other actions might have been more appropriate for an activity that happened outside of the game and after they had won. Only 1/2 the team participated. Why not bench those players in the first game of the finals. This assumes there is a series like the post title implies. If they can’t field a team with 6 players they forfeit the first game and then get to play in subsequent games. This seems to be more in line with penalties I have seen in youth sports. I.e. one game suspension either that year or the next for players involved. Probably reported back to their local league who may add additional game suspensions in following games or series.

That is what I am curious about as well. Unfortunately many parents these days are terrible role models and have terrible reactions to things like this. I became a cycling ref this year, had a 4-5 race where a junior racer cheated by crossing the centerline just before the finish line to get around people for the win. We are very strict about the centerline and it is no secret. He deliberately took a huge swing across the line to pass three people to get the win. Everyone saw it, called him on it and he got relegated. His bitch ass mom went fuckin nuts! She was screaming at the head official for 30 minutes after the race, he finally had to tell her to go away or face further consequences. So what does the kid do? Pisses and moans that this is bullshit, unfair, people only wanted him DQ’ed because he didn’t pull enough, etc. His parents agreed and fed into his pissing and moaning. He learned zero lessons about following rules and fair play, instead he learned to be a jackass just like his parents.
His parents finally took him home… then his mom drove back to have another go at the head official! Bitch was completely cray.

no, in softball like this, it is generally single or double elimination once into bracket play. just because they call it world series does not mean there is more than one game to decide who moves on. essentially ncaa march madness tournament with different name. softball is nothing like baseball. teams are never more than 12 players and you need 9 to start(8 to finish), well depending on which rules you are following.
it looks like it happened in the dugout before leaving the field, ie still part of game and part of field. just young biatches being biatches. there is no part of being disrespectful that is part of good sportsmanship, period.
a good coach would have sat them out of next game which would result in a forfeiture and elimination anyway

I only hope they learned a lesson, it will all hinge on what the parents take on the situation is with each of them. My guess is that a lot of them will get a poor baby, you got jobbed, its not your fault, I will write a letter, make a call, etc.
