Getting a power meter on a Canyon at time of purchase

I’ve considered buying a Canyon but I also want a power meter. When I log onto the website it looks like you only get what they show in the picture. Is there not a way to upgrade to have a power meter? What are others doing?

I have a dual sided Pioneer on my road bike along with the Pioneer computer. Could I just go single sided?

I’ve bought two Canyons and used the VeloFix option where they receive the bike from Canyon and set it up for you at your home. In both cases I had VeloFix order me a PM (Quarq) to do the install when they were building the bike. Pretty easy process. You’re left with an extra crank set if you go the Quarq route, but that’s an easy one to sell.

If you’ve considered a Canyon then adding a PM you should just go with a premier Tactical.

It comes stock with an Infocrank (IIRC), or in not stock the Infocrank is near/at cost.

The Pioneer will also have at least 10x more spikes & dropouts according to the data I get from my Pioneer & Infocrank athletes

As a side benefit the Premier is 2-4w faster in a yaw sweep (ask me how I know)

Food for thought anyway.

Thanks. I didn’t know that option existed

Thanks! Why do you like Premier Tactical?

There are so many options out there. It’s seems like the community thinks Canyons are well priced and many like Cerevelo.

My budget is about $5k. What Premier bike would you recommend?

I’m not sold on Pioneer either. I bought the dual sided and it hasn’t changed anything for me.

The Premier is about the best bang for your $ in the bike market currently. It’s more aero than most of the bikes on the market, comes fully ready to race (optimized chain, race wheels, reasonably fast tires, hydration system, etc). You can literally pull it out of the travel case, put it together and roll it up to the start line that day without having to purchase anything else.

You can also spend a lot more $ on non traditional design bikes or many boutique double diamond bikes only to go slower.

The owner is super helpful. How many bike companies can you ring the owner up on the phone and have the owner answer ?
<3 is my very educated guess.

I know it’s about $900 more than your budget. When you look at all the aftermarket stuff that comes stock with your purchase you’re saving about $1-2k in upgrades to the Canyon.

Thanks! I’ll check it out. I’m starting to accept that I need to spend more. I didn’t realize PT has a direct sales model.

Are the Premier bikes designed/developed by them, or are they re-badged Chinese frames? They certainly do look like very good value…

I would guess that Premier has their own molds.

I recently got a Permier Tactical and am having my local VeloFix put a P2M power meter on the bike. Seems like an easy way to go if you don’t have the tools to change a crank yourself. First impressions of the Premier is that it is well thought out and pieces fit very nicely and are pretty aero. I am putting USE extensions on the bike in place of the ones that come on the Tactical.

I have a dual sided Pioneer on my road bike along with the Pioneer computer. Could I just go single sided?Installing a power meter is super simple. Put a Stages on my Aeroad; loosen the bolt on the left crank arm, pull it off, put crank arm with Stages on, tighten bolt, done. Takes less than a minute and requires nothing but an allen key. On my Speedmax I put a P2M… same thing, loosen the bolt on the crank arm, pull of crank arm (non drive side), pull the crank out of the frame on the drive side; insert P2M crankset and tighten bolt… again super easy requiring nothing but one hex key.

It is easy the way you describe. Do you think the Stages crank arm is as good as an Ultegra? I’ve always wondered that. What kind of computer are you using?

I’m more focused on the cost side. How much am I really going to spend on a new bike? I see the Canyon TT bike is $5100 but I know I want a power meter. Sometimes you get a better deal when you buy everything together.

I was also confused by other posts (in other threads) that said you could get Zipp wheels with the Canyon. The buying experience makes it seem like you can’t customize anything unless you buy a more expensive package.

You’re swapping like for like in that case. Sometimes packages are cheaper and sometimes they’re not, especially with prices of powermeters having gone down so much.

And yes, with Canyon it’s a take it or leave it on a certain setup model. That’s how their business model is set up. If you want to customize you’ll need to do it after the fact. I built a totally custom Speedmax by buying the CF 7.0 and stripping it of all components, and installing TriRig aero bars + scoops, Omega X brakes, Hed and Flo wheels, P2M crank, Kogel bottom bracket, Premier chain… you name it. Since some parts I already had it ended up costing me less than $4k.

Thanks for the reply. I didn’t realize that about Stages. There are so many decisions to make when purchasing a bike! I’m getting closer. Thanks again!

Premier’s are designed by Dan and he owns the molds for the bikes & wheels. I have some insight to how he did it since I’ve done some tunnel testing for him, have chatted with him regarding those bikes & other stuff he’s working on many, many times.

He was in Taiwan for manufacturing for 20yr before jumping into the bike business. There are some tri bike brands who still can’t use the manufacturing facilities he does and others who took 5-7 years to get to use the same facilities Dan used on day 1.

Just saw this thread.

We designed and own all our molds. If I can answer any specific questions or help with your fit please feel free to contact me: dan.premierbike@gmail.com

Ah cool, thanks for chiming in - appreciate the info.

Since we seem to be talking about Premier Bikes - anyone using their rear disc? I have an old HED Jet disc and i accidentally punched a small hole in the fairing - have repaired it kinda-sorta, but it bothers my OCD enough that I want a replacement, but not enough to spend $2k on one. $750 or so for the Premier disc seems like it would hit the sweet spot really well.
