German Running?

Hi-

I am visiting relatives in Germany during the first two weeks of June. I don’t speak German, and am having a hard time finding a translated race calender. I’d really like to get a road race in while I am there. Are there any knowledgeable, German speaking runners out there who can help me out?

Thanks-

What region do stay? I do not live in Germany, but do speak german. From here it must be possible to find something on the internet. Send me a PM and I’ll come back to you. What kind of race are you looking for 10K, half marathon, marathon,…

I am living in Germany and could also give a hand…

Where are you visiting? what distances? Early June is a goldmine for racing near Franfurt.

I arrive in Berlin May 28- will be departing for Budapest nearly directly- then arrive back in Berlin June 6 and stay through June 12. I am not at all opposed to travelling to races. I would most like a running event 10K +, but I’m sure I could manage to get my hands on a bike if a really good tri opportunity (any distance 1/2 IM and under) exists. Anywhere I can access by train is perfect.

Any Hungarian runners out there?

Thanks again!

Go to the German triathlon forum www.3athlon.de and ask around there. Most people speak english well there.

It looks as if your are splitting the middle of two triathlons in the Berlin area. The weekend before and after you leave. However, it seems as if your wish to run a 10k+ road race is in easy reach. If you left after the 12th…you could even run a full marathon in Potsdam on the 12th.

However, here is some information about a race on the 11th in Berlin

11.06.2005 Hönower Seen-Lauf Berlin
5 km
10 km
20 km
TSV Ausbau Berlin *** the name of the club***

Elke Straube, Grandenzer Straße 4, 10243 Berlin

Tel.: 030-2960543

I am sure you know, but the country code is +49 and do not dial the 0 in the 030.

I would just give her, Frau Straube (as you should ask for), a call and speak English. Let her know your travel plans and that you would like to run in the running race on the 11th of June.

Just speak slow and clear. Nearly all Germans speak some English and most speak rather well. Many are just a little nervous on the phone if they don’t have practice.

Please is ‘bitte’ Thank you is ‘danke’ they go a long way in every language.

To try and say the name of the race begin Hönower with the garden tool “hoe” to get the round lips for the ö sound…

add the word ‘no’.

finish with ver…as if starting to say vertical.

‘hoe no ver’

then for the ‘seen’ part just say ‘say’ and add an ‘n’ to the end…

‘sayn’

‘lauf’ is pretty much what it looks like. the vowl is like when you say ‘ouch’

Good luck!

Andy

Thank you very much…the Honower race sounds perfect, and I won’t have to worry about a bike this way. Many thanks again!
