i’m liking these a lot.
upgraded from the well used Gel Magic IV Racer
fitted with new Easy Laces of course.
they weigh about 8.
OK! I’ll bite. I have Magic Gel racers. I’m ok with the, but not in love.
What is it that you like about these and how do they compare–bouncier, lighter, harder, softer, more breathable??? Do they have the hole in the bottom? I like holes in the soles.
guess i should have taken a shot of one of the more important areas huh?
count 'em…3 breathing holes in the soles.
the upppers are reasonably soft mesh which is good since i hate socks and avoid them with a passion.
i just know when it comes time for the 90 degree + summer days…
they do have a bit more bounce than the Gel Magic’s…but they ought to.
the replaced pair easily had a couple thousand miles on them
What did they run you?
115 with the Easy Laces and Aunt Jennifer’s take.
Yikes! that’s a bunch. No wonder you put a few thousand miles on your shoes.
I second the Ohana.
check www.rnjsports.com they have Ohana’s for 82.95. I buy all my running shoes from them and have never had a problem. They also stock some hard to find items like my Asics gel hyper speeds (57.95) that I can’t get locally.
I could live with that. Great! thanks.
Give us a shout out…www.runningcompany.com
We’ve got them both. The Ohana is the speed demon of the two.
Eric
"The Ohana is the speed demon of the two. " You mean the Ohana and the magic gel? The Ohana looks bulkier???
When will your site come on-line?
Ever run in the Kayano? I just made the move from Nike Air Max 360 (w/ custom orthodics) to Asics Kayano XIII (w/o the orthodics) for a lighter training shoe. Once I adjust, I want to get a light weight racer for my shorter races and was considering the Gel-Ohana. Any comparison? The two issues with which I am most concerned: (1) I have a narrow foot, so, I like the snug fit of the Kayano and (2) suitable cushioning in the mid-foot.
March 15th, but we do orders now.
Eric
i cannot directly compare. however, i have about as narrow a foot as you’ll reasonably find and this shoe is perfectly cut for a narrow foot. by design…there’s not a tremendous amount of cushioning but certainly more than the Magic. it was one of those deals where the moment they were on and laced up, even before standing…it was clear they were fine.
Has anyone tried the Asics GEL-DS Racer VII http://www.asicsamerica.com/products/product.aspx?PRODUCT_ID=240007110&TITLE_CATEGORY_ID=250001546 ? I bought these a few weeks ago mainly for wearing durring Sprint Tris but was wondering if anyone uses them for HIM?
I have been training and racing with the Kayano for the last year and have no problems but the DS Racer is a lot lighter. I did one run with them and ran 5mi @ 6:55avg which is my fastest run on this course. The shoes felt fine except the ball of one foot hurt a little.
I’m trying to decide if I should use the Racer or the Kayano in my HIM, any suggestions?
i make it a habit to train with what i will race.
i’d be very skittish about making a major shoe change before a 1/2.
How is the fit of the Ohana compared to the Magic Racers. I’m thinking of ordering the Ohanas, and currently run in the magics. Is the length and width cut pretty similar? Do you wear the same size in both the magics and ohanas?
here’s a sheep faced correction–previous model i logged huge miles on was the Gel-DS Racer IV…not the Magic.
that said, the forefoot area seems a bit wider but not to the point of creating an issue. i don’t mind having a bit of slide space. and in the Gel-Ohana, the 11.5 is just right, where i had been in the 12 with the Gel-DS. my right foot is about a half size larger than the left.
longest run in them so far has been a touch over an hour. i only had one small cut develop (no socks). that spot has not created an issue since then. they are a bit more substantial in the heel and i’m slowly adjusting to them but that extra cushioning has not hurt a bit. i wore them for an indoor tri a couple weeks back and turned a 23+ bike average for 20 minutes and then was able to muster a 6:57 pace for :20 so i think these will be fine for DU’s as well with the Pyro pedals.
I’ve done about 300km so far in my Ohana’s including 1 marathon and they feel good. Lighter and better fitting for me than the magic’s. I have fairly narrow feet and these fit fine.
I would highly recommend them to anyone who is running in the magic’s and wants to go slightly lighter. It’s a big jump for the crowd who like DS Trainers to jump to the Ohana’s though.
