Hi all,
I have been using ASICS Kayano shoes since the Kayano 11. I was thinking of giving the Nimbus a go - just to try something different.
Does anyone have any experience with both? Is support/feel similar for both? How about mileage? I find that the Kayanos go dead after about 800km.
Any views greatly appreciated!

I switched. I found the Mimbus lighter and softer, had less support, but realised I didn’t need so much anyway. I never found that the Kayano went dead so quickly, I would imagine the Nimbus may go sooner…IMO?
Went from 2-3 years of Kayano use to the Nimbus. The Nimbus was lighter and gave me more freedom, I have been more than happy with the switch.
They are completely different shoes with different intentions. Why were you in Kayano’s anyway? Are you that “stuck” on the ASICS brand? Both very good shoes for sure though.
Agreed. Nimbus is a neutral shoe vs. Kayano which is a stability shoe. I’ve been in the Kayano for years, but have run NB as well. Both equally good, but tempted to stick w/ a NB since Asics are so expensive compared to the rest.

Exactly. You really can’t compare the two at all.
Should be replacing shoes before 800km anyways.
As has been rehashed, two different types of shoes here. Unless you have reason (injury, discomfort), I wouldn’t switch out of a stability shoe after that long. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. You could consider something similar from a different brand- Mizuno Nirvana, Brooks Trance, Saucony Hurricane, NB1224 are all in that ballpark. The nirvana and trance will probably feel the closest as far as how they’ll fit. Beyond that, it would be preference b/t those few. Another thing to consider might be the Brooks Infiniti- Brooks brought it out in their new ‘guidance’ category that falls between neutral and stability. If you have fairly normal pronation issues, and aren’t too big, this might be worth a look (it’s not as ‘built up’ as the kayano and others listed above).
Take your shoes into your local store and have them look at your shoes and feet and see what they think about you switching. If you’ve run un-injured in the kayano for the last 3 versions, you might want to keep going with it until it changes so much that you don’t like it.
Mileage-wise, the manufacturers will tell you that the lifespan on these shoes isn’t over 500 miles. 800k is about 480 miles, so you’re right in that ballbark.
Price-wise, they’re in the top category, so they’re comparable to other manufacturers top shoes- everything mentioned above is 120+ and lifespan will usually be a wash.
As others have said, one is a support shoe and one is neutral. Unless you know you don’t need the support, stick with a support shoe.
If you are happy with Asics, you might want to check out the Asics 2130 or whatever the current version is. It is still a support shoe, but is lighter than the Kayano and would be good to add to the mix.

Thanks very much - I couldn’t have hoped for a better answer.
