Hey guys, I’ve been reviewing my nutrition strategy for Sprints and recently discovered powdered Gatorade.
I was wondering if anyone knows about this or has any experience with it.
How do you consume it? Do you snort lines during transition? Do you lick your finger and stick it in the powder and lick it again like a Fun Dip? Do you eat it like a Pixie Stick?

I mix it regular strength.
I can get a big tub from Meijer for ~$8 so it’s really cost effective.
Be careful with this stuff, now that they have removed the flame retardant it is highly combustable:

The trick is to make a cut into your forehead, put some of the powder in a bandana, and tie it around your head so that the electrolytes and calories are absorbed directly into your brain.

Correct, only the premixed gatorade had it. It was to keep the powder from falling out of suspension on the shelf.
Powdered gatorade is awesome by the way, love that stuff.
- Mix different flavor powders, invent your own gatorade so that the colour matches your decals. Use, see though bottles for optimal effect.
My personal favorite is riptide rush frost with lemon lime. Makes a weird blueish, greenish awesome looking drink, tastes great as well. - Wet your stem and powder it, lick it while in aero.
- Throw it on your competitors like pixie dust as you pass them.
Just mule it, and hope it bursts when you need it most.
Make neat little lines of powder on a smooth surface (like a mirror). Feel free to use a straight edge (like a razor blade) to make sure the lines are neat. Suck power into nose with a stong inhale.
I don’t have time in a Sprint to be chopping rails. Bumps are the way to go during short course races.
I honestly do use Gatorade Powder for most of my training. Its cheap and its what they use during races. I train for non-optimum osmolality. I then get to laugh at those people who wear little bottles around their waist during races because they haven’t developed a stomach of iron.
I prefer to buy red or florescent because they look the best coming back up. I don’t know what flavors the colors actually translate to.
AaronT, One thing that I have always loved to do with Gatorade Powder was to get appx 1/4 cup of it and pour it into my mouth before a run.
I let my natural saliva serve as the mixing agent and I can just chew on a thick, sticky ball of Gatorade Powder in my mouth!!

Funny thing:
I had the flu back in December, I couldn’t keep anything down and was dehydrated. I drank little sips of Gatorade as well as water to get some fluid back in me. It sure did make what came back up taste better
You eat it like a man – straight from the scoop. Maybe with an otter pop chaser.
Intravenously. It’s the only way to go. Keep spare needles in your special needs bag. In a pinch, ask a fellow athlete if you can borrow one and see what they say.

If there is a big race coming up (half or longer) and they are serving Gatorade. I buy the powder stuff and mix it with different consistency’s and drink it daily for at least a month to get my gut use to it. Nothing ruins hard training for a big race like G.I. issues.
