Any thoughts/opinions on Gatorade Endurance Formula? I have seen some commercials wonder how it compares to other endurance drinks?
Every bit as good as Gu2O and Cytomax. More powerful marketing, better distribution, lower cost.
Won’t replace things like Carbo Pro, Perpetuem, infinIT.
Tastes good too so you will drink more. And, you can buy it at your local grocery store.
I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and love it. Compared to something like Cytomax, it has 400mg of sodium compared to Cytomax at 100mg (per 16oz). One of the other things I really like about it is that it dissolves completly, no sludge in the bottom of the bottle.
My local grocery store (Ralph’s) has it on sale for this month for $1 a bottle (32oz).
Essentially its regular Gatorade plus extra sodium etc. … you’ll find it on course at many of the bigger Gatorade sponsored events (Vineman Half, IMCDA, IMWISCO, Hawaii etc.) … mike is correct it’s a good product and better for endurace athletes than regular Gatorade.
I’ve been using it for 2-3 months. I have the tendency to mix it a bit lighter than recommended and adding Carbo Pro for calories.
It seems to be a nice mix for running, have done several 1:45-2:15 runs with it, so far so good.
Edited to add:
As far as comparison, I’ve used Cytomax, Accelerade, Endurox, Regular gatorade, Poweraide, and a few homemade concoctions. Last year Cytomax worked well except the taste always left me a little turned off after awhile. In IMFL last year that became a problem. Poweraide…well it makes me vomit. Accelerade and Endurox have protein which always has caused digestive issues on the run for me.
I plan on trying some of the Hammer products Perpetum and Heed on the bike and see if I can handle the Protein in them. I’ve been told that the Soy protein in these products digests more easily than the whey based products in some of the others.

twice the sodium and 3 times the potassium as regular gatorade.
does it come in powder form?
does it come in powder form?
You can get it in powder form in Lemon Lime only and only from their website which I think is gatorade.com
Gatorade Endurence will be used on the course at the Whirlpool Steelhead Triathlon this summer!
We sampled the Gatorade Endurence last weekend at Ironman Arizona. The most asked question was - Where can we buy it? Z
Most major grocery stores seem to sell it.
Yep http://www.trisports.com/gaenhy.html

Gatorade Endurance Formula To Be Served On-Course At USA
Ironman Races
By Staff for Ironmanlive.com on Thu, Apr 14th 2005 (11:33 AM).
To help Ironman athletes with their specialized hydration needs, Ironman North America will now be providing Gatorade Endurance Formula™ on-course for all upcoming Ironman Triathlon races in the United States, beginning June 26 at Ironman Coeur d’Alene.
Gatorade Endurance Formula contains a unique five-electrolyte blend including nearly twice the sodium (200 mg) and three times the potassium (90 mg) of Gatorade Thirst Quencher, as well as calcium, magnesium, and chloride, to help athletes better replace what they lose in sweat during longer and more intense active occasions, such as training for and competing in an Ironman race.
Based on years of extensive research with elite and endurance athletes at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, Gatorade Endurance Formula was specifically developed to help athletes – including triathletes – stay better hydrated and fueled during long trainings and on race day. Similar to Gatorade Thirst Quencher, Gatorade Endurance Formula contains the same scientifically balanced 6% carbohydrate blend that helps speed fluid back into the body and fuel working muscles.
“Research shows that replacing fluid and electrolytes lost in sweat is imperative to optimizing performance and to ensure safety when training and competing,” said Dr. Bob Murray, director of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. “Because of the time and intensity that training for the Ironman requires, these athletes are more likely to experience greater sweat and electrolyte losses, which if not replaced, can easily cause performance to suffer. Gatorade Endurance Formula was developed to help these athletes stay better hydrated so they can feel and perform at their best during trainings and on race day.”
“We wanted to advise Ironman athletes of this change as soon as possible so they can train with the same beverage that will be served on-course,” said Graham Fraser, President of Ironman North America. “Also, we wanted to assure athletes who are familiar with the taste of Gatorade Thirst Quencher that the taste profile of Gatorade Endurance Formula is very similar although some athletes may perceive Gatorade Endurance Formula to taste slightly ‘less sweet’ due to the added electrolyte content.”
Gatorade Endurance Formula is available nationwide in 34 oz bottles at grocery, convenience and mass merchants (i.e. Wal-Mart) in three flavors including Lemon-Lime, Fruit Punch and Orange. Gatorade Endurance Formula is also available in a 50.2 oz instant mix container in Lemon-Lime at select athletic specialty stores around the country and is available to purchase online at www.gatorade.com.
“While it is recommended to train with the same beverage that will be served on-course, we know your training days vary in length and intensity so we also want to assure you that Gatorade Thirst Quencher will still serve you well in providing carbohydrate energy and replacing the valuable fluid and electrolytes lost in sweat,” added Dr. Murray.

That’s great news. We need to remember to ask participants their opinions of it in their race reports.
I actually saw it advertised on MSNBC while they were covering the story of the Hyponatremia yesterday. Found that kinda interesting.
$25/can !!! I’m paying about $7/can at WalMart for the regular.
I agree with j p o, just add salt to the regular one!! Its still cheaper!
The new does not compare to the old. Different carb sources, more electrolytes. Much better product. The old GA is 70’s technology in hi-tech clothes. Great for cutting the grass, bad for what we do.
What about the issue of a sports drink being based on simple sugars versus complex sugars? I had been told that simple sugars provided the quick boost but faded quickly so were not really suitable for IM events, where complex sugars provided a more consistent energy and hence were better suited for all day long events.
Can anyone with an understanding of the differences comment on the suitability of Gatorade Endurance Formula for IM distance events?
IMHO, they made a huge error using plain old sugar. Fools. Wmy not maltodextrin or some other source??? I’ve tasted it, and it’s fine. I like the electolyte count. But again, with the dopey sugar decision, I’d never use it in an event other than at the very end. That stuff just leaves me super flat and feeling crappy afterward.
What if you mix the gatorade endurance with a more prolonged carb course, such as carbo-pro. It seems to be that then you have a good mix of simple and complex carbs, and electrolytes, to get you through the bike course. Then when you get to the run, you can drink the plain gatorade endurance they have at the aid stations. Then you are bacially putting the same stuff in your stomach all day, which, it seems to me, is a good idea.
