For the past 4-6 weeks I have experienced calf pain after I run for a few minutes. It really doesn’t bother me on the bike. In the past few days I have even experienced some numbness in the calf area. My Physical Therapist just says that it needs rest and if it gets worse to go see a doctor. I need help, any suggestions.
Thanks In Advance,

There is a real good thread down below that was titled Ouch, my calf hurts or something like that.
I have had this or a similar problem, and it has been a real mess. It seems that I don’t get it when I faithfully do 100 or so toe raises every day. When I slack off I pay when I run. When it goes, it takes a good three weeks to heal. If I try to push it, the clock starts all over. If you are younger, maybe you will have better luck, but I am guessing you are pushing or north of 40 or you probably wouldn’t have this problem at all.
I agree with Art, you have to do those toe raises. Two years ago I had a similar calf problem (I thought they were severe cramps or charlie horses) that ruined many runs and eventually led to achilles tendonitis. My Physical Therapist had me doing the toe raises on stairs lowering one heel at a time (alternating them) very VERY slowly and never bouncing and only doing them AFTER I’d warmed up a bit. I now use a Pro Stretch device for my calf/achilles stretches in addition to the stair toe raises before and after my runs/rides. Be careful with this condition, it can lead to far worse things and really wreck your season. Good luck.
