Anyone have one, or looked into getting one? Just curious. Was hellbent on a Felt B2, but saw the LG frame, got a heating oil bill, and I suddenly got interested in saving money.
I saw one last summer. It looked OK, but pretty generic as TT frames go. You might want to consider a Cervelo Dual (MSRP in USD ~1500$ for the full bike with Ultegra 9, or$1700 for 10 speed)
I do believe it is the exact same frame that Xlab uses. The fork and seatpost are different, though.
Good price. Under $800. for fram and fork. Actually, I thought it was quite a sexy looking frame. But isn’t that what you’d expect from a French Canadian designer from Montreal. ![]()
for that money, what about the HED 4???
I purchased a B2 frame last year. For $850 it’s a great Frame and Fork, also comes with seat post. I new B2 frames are more now. One thing about Felt is that they are slow to respond, so if you have question you may be waiting. This is the best fit bike that I have raced on and I believe that it’s because I spent the time getting fit. Thanx Kerb Cycle ![]()
Been looking for a frame in that price range lately too. The new K2 Red Zone seems like a nicer frame for the same price. Nothing flash about the K2 either, but it has more style (to my eye) than the LG. I almost bought the K2, but ended up buying a bike from the LBS because I wanted to start a good relationship with them and they took my old bike as a trade-in making it quite a bit cheaper than anything I could order online.
JM,
I saw a Garneau TT bike just last night in Michigan. Very impressive looking. Rep said it had a 75 degree seat tube angle. Bike was built by Garneau to suit triathlon and time trails. Rep said use of Thomson laid back seatpost will permit 78 degree effective seat tube angle.
Frame and fork was $850 USD. I saw a full built up bike with Profile Carbon Stryke Bars. Ultegra I think. It had speedplay pedals on it and Ksyrium wheels, top of the line. The rep said they had just weighed it in the shop and it weighed 19.5 lbs. I neglected to ask what the bike would cost as it appeared in front of me.
When I first saw it and before the rep said what the price of the frame and fork was, I fully expected it to be twice that at least. It looked very well made and looked fast, too!
What I noticed was that my TT bike seemed quite a bit lighter but it is a custom built Serotta.
I have been very impressed by what I have seen from Felt as well. What most impressed me about Felt was the incredible value they offered. A great bike with great spec’d parts.
I don’t think you would go wrong either way.
My 01 Kilo with 105/tiagra, and a disc on it weighs less than that.
The Garneau is a nice bike, if I was a Rep I wouldn’t be bragging about 19.5 pounds, though.
Thanks to all of you for the input. I too am impressed by the looks of the frames (both LG and Felt), and am looking to get the frameset and build it up as parts come along. I hope that this will take me about a month to do once I have the frame. The info Ben gave me about seatpost angle is good to know, I was wondering about the possibilities there. This past year has seen some financial strain with the birth of our daughter, and my wife and I are considering purchasing the frame as a race bike for both of us (yup, I mean one frame, two seatposts and saddles, quick release seatpost binder). We ride nearly identical dimensions as of now, except 1/2 cm to the top of the saddle. The bikes we ride now are both over 10 years old, and are set up for road riding. We are not realistically going to be racing the same races this season, so this makes sense as far as expense goes (maybe not in any other way, comments would be appreciated). This being said, my LBS seems to think he can score two LG’s for a price that is just a bit more than one felt, but not so much as to make the idea unattractive. Someday in the next couple of years my wife and I will again have the opportunity to race the same race together. It would mean more time before the second frameset can be built up, but I don’t see it being a problem for a year or two (and if it is, don’t worry, she will be the one who gets the cherry bike for the race, and I will race the beater, she kicks my ass). The Felt B2 is the first bike that has caught my eye in a long time. I love the way it looks and have test ridden one long enough that I didn’t want to give it back. The LG looks good, but I have no basis for comparison at this point, as I haven’t ridden one. Do I go with the single frame that is pretty damn nice, or is the LG that good of a product that I won’t be settling for something just to have two frames? Or, is this the silliest idea you have ever heard? Should I get a B2, then wait a year or two and get another one? Again, thanks for your thoughts, and input, and some of the ideas about other frames to look into.
JM,
I am betting raising the new daughter is number one.
Set your budget and then try to live within that. Let that guide you. In two or more years, these frames will be old, newer and “better” will be available.
Maybe utility/flexibility is a bigger issue with two riders using the same bike. Maybe that pushes more in the direction of the Garneau? Maybe the Felt is a greater value? You’ll have to make those decisions. Once you do, don’t look back, keep going forward.
does anybody know where to get this frame? i found one or two bike store websites, both only offering store pickup and both too far away.
any idea about canada?
sebBo,
Louis Garneau is a Canadian company, headquartered in Toronto, I believe.
Go to their website and they should have a dealer locator or use their contact us provision to request the information you desire. I don’t know their website address but you could Google it, if nothing else.
I live in Michigan and was advised by the Garneau rep that the frames would be available in the US very soon, by Spring at the latest. We were told they were already available in Canada.
has anybody seen (or even ridden) the LG TT frame yet? if yes where did you get it?
i’m waiting on mine (ordered it on all3sports.com) and hope it will come before june … they weren’t too specific on the date ![]()
sebBo,
“I live in Michigan and was advised by the Garneau rep that the frames would be available in the US very soon, by Spring at the latest. We were told they were already available in Canada.”
That quote still holds true as far as I know. The one I saw in mid/late February was the on the local area rep for Garneau was taking around and showing off. I was impressed by what I saw.
I also know what it is like waiting for a bike to arrive that doesn’t come as soon as one wants it to come in.
Ask all3sports to contact their Garneau rep and get you some more specific information or insight into what is responsible for the delay. Like how long the list is and where you are on it, etc. A good rep will personally shepherd orders for good customers (I’m presuming all3sports is a good customer for that rep).
all3sports told me they expect the shipment of 30 something frames every day now.
i hate this waiting!!
just started bike racing and have only one bike (and a carbon x so i can’t switch back and forth) - i haven’t ridden on a tri bike since january …
out of desperation i entered a local time trial with my road setup sean kelly old school style … at least i got some kudos for that ![]()
“Bike was built by Garneau”
Garneau contracts their frame production to another manufacturer.
Who might possibly sell it to a few other companies also???
