I recently purchased a Garmin Varia and I am at a loss on how to mount it. Currently on the back I have a TriRig water cage mount and a custombike box. So nothing I see will work. Any suggestions or if you have done it would be great. Thanks in advance
That is a great suggestion. I have that and unfortunately it doesn’t work. The Varia sits too far back and the box would obstruct the radar.
I have the same setup and it works fine. The draft box sits below the Varia line of sight and it doesn’t obstruct it. Ideally it would sit as high as possible on your aero post but even at the bottom of the post it’s still above the draft box. Attached to your saddle rails (not an option) with your bottle cage or on your aero post are your only two options since no one makes an adapter to attach it to your draft box.
This would require a new rear bottle cage, but I use an XLAB Super Wing. It has holes all over for mounting stuff, including holes on the rear. Install a Garmin stem mount there (circular twist mount), and you can attach a Varia. I have this setup on several bikes.
If you haven’t tried using it in that available space on your seatpost, you should at least give it a shot. I was quite surprised at how well the Varia worked despite having a fairly large degree of obstruction to read through. IME, the radar works fine even when the tail light is pretty darn obscured.
Better yet, though, just bolt/rivet/epoxy a Garmin 1/4 turn mount on to the back of your box.
