Garmin Training Center for Mac (1)

Anyone use it? I have it downloaded on my MacBook Pro here at work, but don’t have my Garmin with me to test the software out. I wanted to go with Polar, but it’s too much of a pain in the @ss with a Mac!

Just curious about functions, interface, etc. since all I can see right now without the Garmin is the page where I set-up my profile!

Thanks everyone!

I hate to sayit, but Training Center for Mac blows. Training Center blows in general. It is good for getting into a visual format but that is about it. I switch over to the Dark Side and use Sport Tracks for my data needs. Motion Based is free (limited uses) and is much better than Training Center. People just don’t want to write decent software for OS X.

Lame…unfortunate, but lame. Too bad I have to agree there isn’t any good software.

My thing is that I have Parallels on my Mac, but the Polar IR doesn’t work still.

If I use Training Center to get the info off of the Garmin I could get it into XP from there easily. I jsut don’t want a second laptop just for training if I can avoid it!

Have you tried using it through Boot Camp?

Training Center for Mac is indeed lame (not that the windows version was much better), but this one looks more like a prototype written by a kid who was practicing programming in high school. There is this non-free software for Mac (called Ascent), I tried it out and found it slightly better, but not enough to justify paying for it. Motion based, and training peaks are not bad options but again the latter is not free and the former while offers free memberships it only displays your last 10 workouts. For some reason all of these programs ignore my indoor cycling sessions, I didn’t have that problem in windows.

for polar HR monitor software on the Mac try this. http://www.ismarttrain.com/

I didnt really like ismarttrain, plus I have the newest POlar IR chapstick-looking device and don’t want to mess around with the old serial one with an adaptor…sounds like a pain.

And I tried in Boot Camp as well, but Polar told me some big schpeil about how the Apple hardware isn’t compatible even in boot camp…

Who knows. I don’t mind paying for something that works though, maybe I’ll check out training peaks.

Whoa whoa whoa. That’s not true at all - tons of people want to (myself included), but the hardware vendors do a lot to prevent it. Garmin in particular has closed off things to developers. They used to have open, documented APIs - not so anymore. Do you know what I would give to have documentation on PowerTap’s serial protocol? As it is now, I have spent waaay too much time trying to reverse engineer it.
