Garmin Tacx and Disc Brake (Felt IA)

Anyone have this set up? I am riding indoors and the brake rubs on the trainer- I wouldn’t be concerned but I have to adjust the brake when I take it off the trainer to ride outdoors. Additionally, it seems I need to bleed my brakes… not the same pressure when I pull the brake lever. I don’t know if it’s putting too much pressure on the brake or causing issues when on the trainer.

You don’t say which model Tacx, and whether it is wheel-on or direct drive (wheel off).

If it is wheel off, then accidentally squeezing the brake lever when there is no rotor in place can lead to the pads closing, and they then need to be re-spread. Using a brake pad spacer whenever the wheel is off (eg. bike work stand, indoor trainer) can prevent this - there are purpose-made spacers, but you can also just use a business card folded a couple of times.

Tacx Neo- So Direct drive. The brake isn’t being pulled but the rear caliper and trainer are in contact when the bike is secured to the trainer.

We have Tacx Neo 2 with IA disc brake but brake caliper and trainer are not in contact using the right adapters. Barely, but there is definitely a small few mm gap between them

I think this was one of the tweaks form the OG neo. I’ve only run rim bikes on the OG-Neo, but even then they get really close on the non drive chainstay. I don’t know how swapping to the through axle changes the offset, may help I guess.

But I personally would not be riding a carbon framed bike on the neo if the disc brake caliper is in contact with the neo. Unbolting the brake every time is a faff and ultimately going to end badly one way or the other.

I should also add my road bike is fine (Ultegra calipers) but my IA has Sram calipers.

I may need to grab a cheap frame to use for indoor riding.

Tacx provides a small spacer for tight brake clearance. Did you use it?

I’ll need to see but since it’s a through axle, I’m not sure how that would change the clearance.

It’s a spacer that adds a few mm to the thru axle width

Pedal washer might work between frame and adaptor on caliper side. I have the same problem with a Jetblack volt and two different Cervelo disc frames, albeit the frame makes contact not the caliper. Washer gives that extra couple of mm clearance.

The Tacx direct drive also just isnt compatible with some bikes. I wanted to get one, but it isnt compatible with my PR6 frame, so had to go Kickr. I would email them, and check that it fits with your bike.
