Garmin Swim Leak

Looked down during a swim last night and my Garmin Swim was off. Upon closer inspection the battery cover had slightly popped open and it was full of water. I currently have it sitting in a container full of rice, but I’ve got this feeling that I should probably just call Garmin and start the repair process. Anyone have any luck bringing their watch back from the dead? .

You might be screwed. Due to the fact that the battery cover wasn’t closed while swimming, that is an operator error. They tell you to make sure that the internal gasket protecting (waterproofing) the battery is in place by running your thumb over it before closing the battery cover. You have to do that and also make sure that the cover makes a clicking noise. I know all this because there is a video online that tells you how to replace the battery. I just had mine replaced at Walmart. I checked the o ring first with my thumb. It was in place. Then after the lady replaced it, I made sure to check the cover. She failed to lock it in place. I pushed down on it and it clicked into position. It’s very simple, but also very easy to make a mistake too.

What bugs me is it’s not the first time I changed the battery, and I heard the click when I closed it up. I don’t understand why the battery compartment isn’t waterproofed to the rest of the watch. I’ll bet that most of the failures on this watch have something to do with the battery compartment leaking, whether its operator or a manufacturing error. Who wants to bet that the next generation will have a rechargeable battery.

It’s back from the dead! Tried the rice thing over night and it didn’t seem to do much. Decided to leave on the dash of my car in the sun yesterday afternoon. Made all the difference. By around 5 it looked totally dry. Popped the battery back in a voila, fired right up.

I’m glad to hear you got it working again. I’ll keep that dash trick in mind, if I ever have a similar problem.
