Garmin Speed/Cadence Sensor - Speed not working

Garmin Speed/Cadence sensor is misbehaving.
Cadence is working.
Speed isn’t.
I tried multiple resets. The speed sensor doesn’t activate no matter how close it is to the magnet.
I don’t have a new battery on hand to try that. But, I’m assuming that if the battery was dead the cadence sensor wouldn’t work. Maybe that’s an incorrect assumption.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?

My fix sadly was to buy a new one. I tried a lot of things, including putting the battery in backwards (suppose to reset the device) and nothing worked.

I’ve heard a weak battery will stop working for speed before cadence… Likely worth a shot to try at least.

You can buy the 2032 batteries as a 3-pack at the dollar store. I’m sure they may not last as long, but $.35 apiece is a pretty cheap test.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t your issue, but maybe…

Anyway, I also had trouble with my Garmin speed sensor when I first got my Garmin Edge 800. I was riding a trainer and had issues with speed dropping off until I figured out that I need to turn off the GPS to make the speed from the magnet work.

Like I said, probably not your issue, but that was my problem.

I just returned one with the same problem. The first and only defective Garmin product I’ve had.

I even tried a new battery. Luckily I bought it from REI and they exchanged it with no questions asked.

jaretj

i have one where the cadence dropped out before the speed- i kept it, its in a baggie somewhere, but it never occured to me to change the battery. Looks like ill go buy some of those little buggers and see if it works

Thanks.
Tried a battery but no luck.
Sending it back to Garmin.

I has the same issue, solved it cleaning the spoke sensor withe lube/degreaser
.

Ya, same issue, speed works for me soon after changing the batteries and a clean re-pairing with the sensor to my 305, but it quickly tapers off. Cadence has continued to work for 2 months without speed on 4-5 sessions per week, so I know the battery isn’t the issue. It is set for indoor use, no GPS. I’ve stopped worrying about it because I’m on the trainer.

I need it to use TrainerRoad.

Nate sometime pops up here.
Any alternatives to the Garmin GSC-10 ?

Unless Garmin have changed the design of the GSC-10, an ongoing problem with these units is the issue of not actually being totally waterproof especially if you are prone to cleaning your bike with a pressure cleaner or ride in the wet often. I have had 2 fail on me due to water intrusion and is characterised by an intermittent or total drop out in either the speed or cadence sensors due to corrosion I contacted Garmin about this issue and was advised this is a known problem and to avoid using pressure jets directly on the unit and to inspect after rides in wet weather. Units were out of their 12 month warranty period so thanks for nothing Garmin, I have Duo Sensors on my Trek bikes now so no need for non waterproof crapstick GSCs anymore.

Mine has never been used outside.
