Garmin HRM Tri Keeps Disconnecting

Tried searching here and Google but couldn’t find answer. Have a HRM Tri strap paired to a Fenix 5S+ and recently it keeps cutting out ~15 minutes into each workout. It connects fine at start but anywhere from 10-20+ minutes in, it will just stop working and not come back (can see the HR data go blank for a minute until wrist HR picks up and running dynamics goes away). If I take it off and try again later, it will work again for 15 minutes and the drop again. Does it while running and biking. Original battery died a few months back and it was working fine on replacement until a few weeks ago. Thought battery died again but swapped out for new one today and still has issue. Is there pairing issue with watch? Weird that it just started happening out of nowhere. I don’t swim with it, just run/bike. And the board looks clean, no moisture intrusion. Had a HRM Run prior and killed it through sweat so got this one hoping it would be slightly more waterproof. Reset watch without any effect.

All the searches point me to people with intermittent drops but it comes back. Mine won’t come back during workout.

In my experience, this has always been due to the battery.
Do you have another HR strap to try? Maybe get another battery from a different store?Possibly take out the new battery, leave the battery compartment open overnight and try it again tomorrow.

It’s possible that the problem you are having has nothing to do with recent battery replacement, but I would put that as a long shot. Your HRM is probably bricked. I would recommend contacting Garmin. This is a known problem and Garmin has been very good about standing behind its products – often even when out of warranty.

Thanks for that tip. I reached out to Garmin and they replaced it no questions asked and told me that it’s a 2 year replacement policy now. They even replaced it with a Pro Plus, hopefully this one lasts longer.

Also I randomly decided to check out my old HRM run which stopped working a while back after a battery replacement (wouldn’t pair with anything multiple times). After sitting on a shelf for 10 months it now magically works. Wondering if something just dried out.
