can you swim with it ? Does it survive the swim leg of a triathlon ?
anybody did it ?
may work. not recommended. lots of threads. use search.
The remedy is to put it in a plastic bag and place it under your swim cap.
Garmin charges about $90 bucks to repair.
For the bike and run, the feeback is very nice.
10 hour battery though, figure out what features you can live without to free up battery life or simply turn in a sub 10 IM.
- Don’t Swim with it…no mater if it says it is WR to 1m
- Buy the seperate speed/cadence sensor and run the watch off of INDOOR mode (conserves battery can go on for 20hrs+)
- Attach to your aero bars with: http://giambrone.info/stuff/305_kit.htm
- Turn it on GPS for the run
- Wouldn’t worry with the foot pod unless you want to.

As someone else noted, the watch is only water resistant to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
I put mine inside two ziplock bags, then put it under my swim cap. So I do swim with it. The buttons are easy enough to find, so I can start it at race start, hit lap as I exit the water, get my wetsuit pulled down to my waist as I run, then pull the unit out of the bags and put it onto my wrist as I run.
The nice thing about having it on the swim is that I can now measure the distance (so I know how my performance was relative to other races - since distances on the swim are rarely acurate you cannot know how good a swim is otherwise), and I can also see technically how well I swam (straight line, or wandering around). I found that I was wasting time with bad sighting, and now I swim much better lines.

Wow, the GPS will read through your cap?! Thats cool!
Yes, ziplock under cap will work. The signal may be determined to be ‘weak’ but it should still be ok.
I swam many open water miles in Eleuthra with it and, combined with Motionbased, it made some very nice maps.
I get a weak signal in my apt (which is a basement suite in a house). They work great. Love my Forerunner.
FWIW I got a thing from REI. If I recall they have them for ~$210 after rebate.

That’s nothing. In the winter, I always run (or snowshoe) through the woods with the 305 under full winter gloves, or even in a jacket pocket. It doesn’t see daylight at all, but it works fine. The antenna is VERY strong.
Why the hell would you race with one??? Seriously…
I just read 3 of your posts that you made recently. You sound like you need a hug
((((hug))))
