Garmin express sucks

Garmin Express is an active dumpster fire.

It works, and then it doesn’t work. It pairs devices and then it won’t pair devices. It remembers my devices and then it’ll restart the software from scratch and make me add the device all over again. It syncs and then it doesn’t sync. It uploads data and then it doesn’t upload data.

ANT agent was beautiful in its simplicity, but I wanted Express to work because it’s shiny and new, but alas it sucks.

Congratulations on being awful.

Yes, I know there are other threads about this.

Yes, I know the solutions (download ANT agent)

Yes, I’m annoyed anyway.

I’m sure there’s a fix.
It’s worth it.

or just use Training Peaks

Training peaks =/= garmin express.

Garmin Express is for transferring data from Garmin to the interwebz. AFAIK you can’t do that in TP.

The TrainingPeaks Device Agent does exactly that

I just wish it would do it automatically, without me having to open it, select my Garmin Device, click on Download, then click on Save.

With Garmin Express, which gave me a ton of problems initially but has been working fine now, it does all this by itself and then uploads it to TrainingPeaks.

Garmin express makes me want to throw my fucking computer against wall about every 3 days. I’ll unplug my ANT+ then unpair and pair again and then restart my computer. Then I’ll ckeck online to see if Garmin connect is down. If I do this enough times it will download my file.

The old ANT+ communicator worked much better.

Add me to the list. Garmin Express is really bad software.

Interesting. What if I don’t use TrainigPeaks?

The really sad part here is it would be worth it to me to upgrade to the 920 just to avoid having to dick with Ant+ uploads of any kind

Ditto. I’ve resorted to using the ANT+ Agent again and most of the time having to unpair/pair in order to get stuff downloaded (plus making sure I delete all my older activities from the Garmin memory or it takes forever to download). At least I don’t have to restart my computer, and the sync with Strava is quick.

Same here!

Mine does.

I didnt know it did until I hooked up my garmin to the laptop post ride and went off to watch the Worlds on TV. I checked for my buddies ride on Strava and it was there - it had uploaded to Garmin and Strava directly without me intervening,.

Much easier than the usual messing round !

Based on what I heard I decided to not use Garmin Express… I decided to continue using the old method for my garmin 310XT and it still works file and automatically uploads without a problem. When they eventually deprecated the old method I will do the same thing I do with my edge 500 I just do a manual upload…

Even if I removed the Garmin Express and reinstalled ANT Agent, I am no longer able to export routes to my 310XT and I have to pair the device every time I want to import data to Garmin Connect/Trainingpeaks with the ANT agent. Everything was perfect before I installed the Garmin Express. Thank you very much, Garmin.

I hear you. I had all sorts of problems initially. Hanging on the splash screen. Telling me I had no ANT stick plugged in when I did. Refusing to sync recognized devices. Not recognizing devices.

But after fiddling with it for a long time, re-installing, etc, I have reached the promised land. Now it just automagically uploads to TP and Strava from both my 510 and 610.

I’ve avoided Garmin Express exactly because of threads like this one. Think I’m going to keep ANT Agent on all my PCs until Garmin doesn’t support it any more…

The Training Peaks device agent will not get the file off of the 910xt. It just looks for the .fit files on your PC hard drive. You still have to use a Garmin product to get the wireless transfer to the PC. With the Edge devices that plug in to the USB they don’t have the extra step that the ANT+ wireless transferring devices do.

That said, other than the annoyingly frequent updates, Garmin Express has been working perfectly for me.

Totally agree. I bagged it altogether. I’ve only got the FR70 and use it simply as a HRM. Express is technology gone bad.

Have you updated it? I had similar issues when it first came out but now it works flawlessly on my Mac with my Fenix.

You have jinxed yourself. The dumpster fire will burn brightly in your back yard in the near future.

I guarantee it.

Everything is up to date. Device software, Express software, laptop itself (flash, java, whatever the heck Express uses)…it’s all the latest version.
