Hey y’all. So I am in the market for a GPS device for my bike, and my friend tells me the Edge 500 is the shit. But I’m looking at a comparison on amazon, and I do not think there’s much of a difference between the edge 500 and 200, except for the 500 you get an altimeter, a bit longer battery life, power-meter compatibility, etc. Is the Edge 200 just a piece of crap, is there something I’m missing? Any of you had any bad experiences with either?
200 is not ant+
That means no cadence, pwr, or heart rate

If you’re on this forum, you want a 500.
You’re welcome.
dcrainmaker knows his stuff. If you’re looking new, you might want to consider the new models as well. he also reviews these.

Agree.
If you’re tight on cash, you could go the route of the Magellan Switch Up, which is usually price-wise somewhere in the middle. From a cycling standpoint, it pretty much has the vast majority of the same functionality as the Edge 500. Though it lacks in compatibility with Garmin Connect for stuff like courses. But when it comes to customizing display screens it actually exceeds that of the Edge units by a longshot. Fwiw.
There’s always the Brighton Rider units out of the UK too. Garmin thinks they’re too close to their units, so we don’t get em in the states.
My $02: if you’re not ever planning on training with power, stick to the 610 or something similar. More useful for multi-sport endeavors.
I have a 500 'cause soon as I can afford one, there’s gonna be a Quarq on my bike. I need to buy the wrist band thingy so I can run with it on my wrist.
