I bought my family member a Garmin Edge 305 and he loves it, so for my birthday I was given the Forerunner 305. It’s amazing, but having HUGE PROBLEMS. The software will not install on the computer unless I delete his Edge 305 software!!! What do I do? Anyone already figured this one out? HELP!!!
Don’t they both use the same software (i.e. Training Center??).
Open Training Center without connecting the device. Go to User. Then Add New User. Then follow the instructions…
Nope. NOT same software. The garmin edge 305 software will not recognize the Garmin Forerunner 305 unit. It says the only way I am allowed to download from the Forerunner is to install the software, and to install the software it says I have to uninstall the edge 305 software.
Catch 22.
It said something like T4 vs. T5. T5 needs to be downloaded. But if I delete the Garmin software in there now, will it erase all of his previous data???

My computer has problems with the Forerunner 301 and the Edge 305.
I have both on the same copy of Training Center so it is possible. However have you tried SportTracks? It has better maps (and free)! Either way, be sure to save your data files before any changes and you should be OK. You can re-mport your history if you have to reinstall. Good Luck.
I use both a 305F and a 305E. I can run both of them on my Garmin version 4.00 Training Center program. I haven’t tried to merge the data from the two units. But I can get full history and current info from which ever unit is plugged into my computer at that time. I find this combo works great for Tris, as I can get HR data for both the bike and run off of the same chest strap (both have to be matched to my chest strap before the event). Tim
