I posted this on the Garmin Forums but haven’t had a response. Figured I would post here for broader coverage.
I bought a 310XT last week and went for my first ride on Saturday. When I uploaded the data I noticed that there was a firmware upgrade available, so I updated the device which of course wiped all the settings, including, apparently, the time.
This morning I went for a swim (indoor pool) and turned the GPS off since I knew it wouldn’t work anyway. In hindsight I now realize that I never had a GPS reception between updating the device Saturday night and going for my swim this morning, because the time on the device was wrong but unfortunately I didn’t realize it. So I uploaded the swim data to GC, and that’s when I realized the time was off because the date of today’s swim is showing as 3/31/2007.
I had the same question over at Garmin with no reply. Prior to the last Garmin Connect site upgrade you were able to edit the date/time, they did a site update about a month ago and since then you no longer can edit this. It’s a pain because anytime you do an indoor activity, the date/time is always wrong and now there is no way to correct it.

Is there anyway to change this or am I hosed?

Note, your core issue (date not showing correctly w/o signal) is what you probably want to solve. Since it sounds like you’re on the latest firmware, give support a call. They are replacing units that exhibit the exact issue you noted.
Thanks for the replies. I’m new to this watch and didn’t realize that losing the date and time when there is no active GPS signal was not the expected behavior. I’ve read the thread linked above and have contacted support.
That allows you to edit the name of the activity and some other stuff but you can’t change the date of the activity that way.
O yes you can!! Have a look and you will see.
The PIA are the compulsory fields for information which is not collected when not using GPS or heart rate. But you can change date, time, input distance, average pace, fastest pace, etc, etc

I’ll be damned, you’re right. I was looking at the pencil icon up near the top and didn’t even notice the one next to “Summary”.
My 310 does the same thing. The watch has a problem with some units where it cant keep the date and time. You need to get a GPS lock and then go in doors, it will then lose GPS but that is ok. Once it has updated it it keeps it while the watch is on. I ware mine on the way to the pool or to the gym.
I wish I had a time machine! apart from going back in time and winning loads of cash I could have saved my self hours of manually inputting my indoor work outs as they all were uploaded with the wrong dates! doh…oh well now I can go on into the future knowing there is a better way! many thanks for info!

I stand corrected, you’re right. I too was looking at the pencil icon at the top. Well that’s good to know. Now if only GC would allow you to join workouts.
