Garmin 920xt vs. fenix 3 HR/Sapphire

Considering my first Tri watch, I’ve had other garmin watches for running only in the past.
What would you recommend 920xt or fenix 3?
Thanks

I watched a YouTube comparison on the two and just ordered the Fenix 3 HR. I have been using a Suunto Ambit 2, which for my needs Up until now it was a great.

Maybe also consider the 735
.

I have the 735 in black and it actually looks like a normal watch in an office setting.
The 920 looks kinda silly
The fenix just looked huge on my girly wrists

The Fenix 3 is considerably bulkier and the back has a convex shape, whereas the 920xt is less bulky and has a concave shape that hugs the wrist. Try running, or just waving your arms, with both on if you can. Having said that, the 920xt is rather unattractive. The 920xt is also on huge sale right now.

Unless you are doing an ironman in the next 12 month then I’d look at it more from a 735 vs. Fenix hr point of view. That said I went with the fenix and have been very happy with it, but the thing is huge on the wrist.

In short it really depends on your intended purpose. For me, I only race with a watch for the run, so I am ok with the 735xt’s relatively poor battery life. It is a great device, powerful, and slim. I use it for run training, swimming training, and for casual bike rides. It has built in HR which I use for steady workouts, but not for up and down workouts as it is NOT reliable IMO. It is pricey though.

The 920xt I had for a while but I sold it. It has a great battery life, but is a quite a bit larger than the 735xt and the Fenix 3 is even bigger. I preferred the 910xt swim mode than the 920xt but that gets in details. Before the 735xt I just used a run watch and used both the 225 and 235 which are great little watches too although the 225 does now seem large compared to the 735xt.

The 735xt is a bomber device but it is expensive and no discounting that I am see.The 920xt will likely get upgraded in the next year and I would expect the Fenix to as well. I would go with the 920xt if I was you. I am sure you have seen there have been some pretty good deals on both the 920xt and Fenix 3 including. Many of your favor retailers should be offering these prices, but I have seen a lot of stock outs as well. These prices are supposed to be valid thru 12/24 so likely have some time for them to get more in.
