Garmin 910xt Software Update (1)

Received an email from Garmin today telling me that an update was available. Any guinea pigs able to report about functionality or loss thereof after applying the latest update?

If it is the 2.8 update, it worked fine at Lake Stevens this weekend. I’ve heard of a few bugs (vibration alerts or something), but I haven’t experienced them.

Looks promising:

Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.80:
**Smoother elevation recording.**Fix occasional elevation spike at the beginning of an activity.Fix custom workout crashes in foreign languages.**Fix loss of position in auto multisport after swim.**Fix crash when switching sports due to HR graph.
I’ll probably install it soon. I’m a sucker for pain

I think the upgrade is working well from what I have seen.

Used it in a sprint Tri this past weekend and one long run. The Multisport issue seems fixed (in my 1 test) and the long run generally was ok.

I say generally only because it was a unique test for me and had odd results…

Answered ‘yes’ to moving 100s of miles
Started activity before getting satellite lock (I have a footpod).

The data seemed good during the run, but after my upload I noted it started December 12, 2009… Then once satellites locked in was corrected. I think it was all user error, and likely not a new behavior for this revision, but still would have hoped the time would keep from my last activity (regardless of satellite lock)

Used it at Racine with no issues.

Thanks guys. I’ll take the plunge.

I used it for 2 days after the update. It was fine my first run morning. the next day I swam and then ran. When i switched to run, the screens displayed were stuck as the swim screens still. It recorded data correctly, but my distance displayed was in yards and the pace was displayed time/100. I already had an RMA to fix a battery charging issue and the altimeter issue, so I sent it back after that. run.

Well no luck with fixing elevation spikes at the beginning of the activity for me. Updated this morning and went for both a bike and run this afternoon. Both activities had a 35K+ elevation spike at the beginning. I’ll probably send email to support as this is the 2nd watch for me that just doesn’t even come close when it comes to elevation plus the activity in Garmin Connect remains broken even after enabling elevation correction.

→ That messed up my last race… Installing now!

I’ve never had my 910XT asked me if I had moved 100s of miles. Even when I flew from Boston to Germany in 2011 (and to Austria this year) it still never asked me that.

Strange because I remember that older Garmins used to ask me that but never the 910. I thought they’d even gotten rid of it until you mentioned this.

Yup, it still has the same questions if it has trouble finding satellites… In my case I was in be middle of Dow town Chicago…

First is the usual ‘are you indoors’ the. If No… Have you moved hundred of miles since last use… If No… Is today XXXX date?

I guess answering yes to any (of the non indoors ones) must reset the clock/date. Maybe I’ll run an experiment sometime.

Upgraded to 2.8 right before IM Racine. Auto-multisport worked perfectly for me. Had no other issues with the update, so far so good.

I had this issue and Garmin told me the Altimeter was broken. I sent back the watch and they sent me new one.

I had one issue since installing 2.80.
During my run, it stopped tracking and resumed a couple times. This resulted in long straight lines with averaged speeds (similar to running through a tunnel). I have since ran twice more, and they logged perfectly. Perhaps just a fluke. Here is the workout:

On the plus side, when loaded onto Strava, it said I averaged 5:54 for some odd reason.

I probably should. Just got my 3rd RMA unit, so best time to test is when it is fresh since I think now warranty is shorter on the refurb crap they sent me

Still on version 2.7 but I had my first odd behavior from my 910XT on Tonights run. On my 5 mile run tonight - I sprinted the first 3 miles pretty damn hard and its telling me that I ran some incredible Avg pace - which honestly I am really not capable of running that fast, no way in hell can I run a 4:37 mile or even a 5:45 - at least I do not think so. The map from the run was also totally wacky as well and not exactly my route. Do these things just go goofy every now and then or was there some kind of Satellite problem tonight?

Would 2.8 fix the goofyness?

Guys, anyone have issues installing 2.8 on 910xt. It keeps crashing on me.

What do you mean by wacky? Was it similar to the workout I linked to above?

Where do you try? I used this one https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/fr910update.jsp and had no problems.
