Garmin 910XT Buttons Broken - $99 Repair Or 920XT

The down button on my Garmin 910XT suddenly stopped working. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook it because in certain menus, I can go all the way to the top and if I press ‘up’ one more time, it will just go right to the bottom. However, that doesn’t work when selecting data fields. So now on the bike training fields, I have all four fields used up and fields three and four are just 4 random data points being shown which I won’t use. There’s a couple other menus that won’t skip to the bottom as well.

I went through the repair process and my 910XT is out of warranty, so Garmin will charge me $99 to get the button fixed. Should I just go ahead and spend the money, or should I use that $99 and just go bigger and get a 920XT. From your guys personal experience, are the features worth upgrading for?

yes I would go 920XT - will they give you any $ discount off the 920XT?

Doubtful but I could contact and ask.

My 910XT also has an issue, in my case a broken pin that connects the band to the watch face. I contacted Garmin support last week and aside from the $99 refurb option they also offered me 20% off a 920XT through garmin.com if I were to send in my 910. Not sure if the trade in option is dependent on the state of your 910 or not.

Go 920. Mine 910 died a few weeks ago, and I got the 920. Now I’m glad my 910 died. The wifi upload is sweet. Auto lap screen is better, swim rest screen is nice, interval screen is nice. Just all around way better.

Get the 920 and send me your 910. I’ll pay for shipping

920xt. Hands down. I lost my 910 during a race and replaced it with a 920. Was planning on using the 910 until the bitter end. Had I known how much better the 920 was I would have replaced the 910 right away.

It’s like paying to fix a '81 Civic when you can buy a '16 model that’s light years better. Just go for it.

Had exactly the same problem with my 910 but it came right after a while. I think the button gets stuck in at an angle. If you feel the button under the rubber and try and work it about a little it may release. I wouldn’t spend any money getting it sorted.
