Wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem. If I am using my 910 in bike mode while mounted to my bars the device will shut itself off without warning during a workout. It first happened about three weeks ago and Garmin suggested performing a master reset. This fixed the problem and the device started working normally again. Yesterday it happened again and I needed to perform the master reset to get it to properly power up.
I’m going to contact Garmin but I want to see if this isolated to my device or an inherent flaw in the 910.
I had this problem on my first 910XT. I would also notice that auto pause/start was toggling just before a shut down. Garmin had me ride with it on my wrist - no shut downs. They replaced mine and thought it was related to vibration. You can find this problem discussed heavily on the Garmin forums, so it’s not unique to you. Just give Garmin a call.
Yep. I think it might well be a vibration issue. It has happened twice. Both times were on descents with rough asphalt. I have taken off the quick release and placed a piece of inner tube rubber between the QR and the watch. Will see how that goes.
Mines been doing it in course mode at roughly hour intervals. I wear it on my wrist and can’t correlate it to anything I’m doing in the workout… Ticket opened with garmin, I hope its just a software issue
Another frequent occurrence on the Garmin Forerunner XT series would be the unfortunate loss of speed during a bike workout. After locking in to at least 5 satellites and beginning the workout, there have been several instances when the watch would suddenly lose the speed (in kph) at some random point during the workout. Apparently, the satellites are still locked-on since the watch indicates strong reception. Also, the cadence sensor on the bike is still functioning. It is only the speed that goes 0.0 kph even while moving downhill. After a few minutes of getting absolutely no speed, it would randomly work again after a few minutes, which is very frustrating. Another way to try to knock some sense into the watch is to shut it down and turn it on again - then again, the speed indicator would go 0.0 kph again after a few minutes. The firmware is the latest one uploaded on the site, by the way. Any thoughts from similar experiences and resolutions would be most helpful.
Exact same issue since I fitted the QR kit. Infuriating.
I opened a ticket with Garmin. They readily acknowledged the problem and are chasing several leads to identify/remedy the issue. I guess we just have to be patient and let them correct the problem.
Mine started failing after I installed my QR kit and bike mount as well. Garmin has suggested using the device only on your wrist until they find a solution. I hope they fix it soon, what a pain!
Any luck in trying to resolve the sudden shutdown on the speed indiccator on your Garmin? I just went on an easy bike ride yesterday and it did not track half of the mileage I actually did.
This has been happening to me too( the shut down). Usually on the bumpy downhills. During my last Ironman Race the speed also stopped working at about 110 k’s in. I had to turn of,then turn back on the GPS to get speed showing again.
Do you think the software upgrade is going to fix this issue or is it looking like a return to Garmin to fix?
I had the shutt off thing happening when I 1st got it & was fairly discouraged. I then read some other forum suggestions.
The autolap enabled every 5 miles, vibration alerts. I found when I turned off both of those it made a big difference. I also adjusted the QR release on both of my bikes to a position to try to dampen the vibration.
Since then I haven’t had it happen.
