Let me be the latest to bitch about trying to upload data to Garmin. Recently got the Edge 510, downloaded the iPhone app. First ride - the phone sync’d and uploaded the workout automatically with no problem. Second ride - the Edge won’t connect to the iPhone at all. Tried turning on/off Bluetooth, rebooting both devices to no avail. The devices are next to each other so proximity is not the issue. They will not pair.
Plugged the Edge directly into the Macbook thinking I could upload it that way, no dice. Garmin says “nothing to sync”. Downloaded Garmin Express, that app appears to do nothing. It’s downloaded but just “running in the background” and there is no way to open it. Not sure ft it is supposed to work this way or not.

You can do it this way. Just open the Garmin drive and find the folder in it called ‘Activities’, find the session you want to upload and drag and drop it onto your desktop. You can now manually upload it (there’s a button in Garmin Connect somewhere that says ‘upload’). I haven’t had to do that in ages though as mine seems to upload fine via bluetooth. You do need to have the Garmin Connect App running on your phone.
Thanks, I partially solved it. I deleted Garmin Express from Macbook and reinstalled it. Added the 510 device after plugging in with USB and it uploaded the workout. Then, the 510 on it’s own apparently did a SW upgrade. Tried to connect again to iPhone app, still no dice on that part. At least I got the ride uploaded but it would be nice to connect to the phone again. Especially since that is one of the big features.
OK…after about 25 attempts to connect the iPhone it finally connected, even though are red bar popped up on the bottom saying there was a connection error - it actually did connect and sync the workout.
Wish I could offer advice to others but looks like if you just keep rebooting, deleting/reloading apps, and trying multiple times it might work for you! No rime or reason.
BTW, the Garmin support forum mentions the red failure to sync message and it says to upload latest firmware - maybe the update that just loaded is what did the trick. Will see how it goes on the next ride.
I was playing around with the bluetooth function on my 810 one day and had it connected to my android phone through the Garmin App.
A month or so later I did a ride, hit stop then save, it auto uploaded through my phone…I thought that was freaking great! I didn’t have to do anything else and I was pretty happy.
