Garmin 310XT vs. Polar RS800CX-multi?

I’m going full pop for a new HRM and cant decide between the Garmin 310XT and the Polar RS800CX-multi. I’m looking for opinions on each. Here is my delimma: on the one hand the Garmin is a one unit device and has excellent GPS ability and can track/store multiple workouts, etc. On the other hand the Polar had incredible heart rate tracking features and the analysis software is pretty bomber, but there is the hastle of the G# unit…

Opinions?

I have a GArmin 310xt. Love it. I’m not a big fan of Polar HRM’s. Seem a bit difficult to set up workouts and such. But just my opinion.

Had ‘pods’ with a Timex bodylink ages ago. Hated it. Been with Garmins ever since - FR305 and now FR310XT.
Although you state you are looking for a HRM you are looking at multisport devices. If you were going solely for HRM, Polar is supposedly the best. But for a 1 unit multisport device, it’s hard to go past Garmin at the moment. Some people are reporting faults and problems with the 310. We have 2 in our house and are extremely happy with them, having had no problems of any significance to deal with or put up with.

I understand Timex are bringing one out soon which might be worth a look.

As for software, irrespective of what the manufactures supply, chances are there are better, more complete optinos available SportTracks is one for the PC and online RunSaturday. There are a number options for Macs such as Ascent, Trailrunner, iSportTrain etc

I started with the Polar and never ended up using the foot pod because it didnt seem to ever calibrate correctly. The HR strap is comfortable though. Got the 310 a few months ago and like it a lot better. HR works as well as the Polar but the strap is not as nice. Dont ever have to worry about extra pieces or calibration. I would recommend the Garmin
