Garmin 310xt Chargin Issue WTFFFFF

Ok so I have a 3 day ride this weekend and I was getting everything set last night. I hooked up my garmin 310 to make sure I had a full battery for the trek. Today When I came home it was still hooked up the the USB on my computer, which was also plugged in and it is reading “Charging 0%” … I turned the device on and it says “Low battery” it doesn’t immediately shut off but the battery symbol on the bottom is empty in the settings screen. When I tried hooking it back up to the charger after a minute or 2 it said “Charging 100%” and I had a sigh of relief. I turned the device on and the battery symbol was still at empty and it said “Low battery” again … WTF … It’s been on the charger for 5 minutes and it’s still reading 0% … I am super bumming.

Tried a factory reset. Not fixed.

how old is it? I think the battery does need to be replaced over time?

Clean the contact on the back with a pencil eraser and see if that helps with charging.

6 months old. was at 50% last night, then 100% before I went to bed. Now says 0… hasnt been unclipped from the charger since last night.

Garmin recommended a new charging cable. I just drove to a buddy’s house with a 910 charger (same charger) no difference. They sent me an RMA but can’t get me the device tomorrow, which sucks as I have a 3 day 180 mile trek this weekend I am leaving for tomorrow. The device appears to work fine minus the low battery warning every few minutes. Looks like I am going to have to just try it out and see how it goes. Did a 15 minute trial driving to my buddy’s and it didn’t die, still says 0% when plugged into the charger. Has said charge complete twice now and when I turn it on still says low battery. Seems like a software issue. Factory reset again, no help. Garmin says they can’t re do software through ANT it takes too long, whatever that means.

Does this mean I have to guy buy an Edge 510 for this weekend

Great SUCCESS.** **In case this happens to anyone else. Hopefully it shows up on google searches. I left mine on the charger for 15 minutes and it said Charge Complete AGAIN. I let it sit like that for a few minutes then powered it on and THIS TIME the battery in the lower left was full. No low battery warning. I started it and am letting it run down a bit to see if it recognizes discharging. Thanks to everyone who helped out. Hopefully this thing isn’t pooched, but things are looking up.

My 405cx did the something the other day. Hooked up it said 100%, take it off and it dropped to 0%. Left it on and forgot it for a day and now it works fine.

My 910 started doing this. And squealing s high pitch. Play with it for 10 mins and it will eventually charge. POS

I’ve had that phantom battery discharge before as well as some of my friends. I honestly think it’s from not have the clip on right.

Also sometimes I bump the ‘on’ button when putting the clip on. That turns the watch on and I think it won’t charge like that.

Mine was definitely some kind of software glitch. It thought it was at 0% even though it was at 100%… if it was really at 0% it wouldn’t even turn on, let alone run for 20 minutes with GPS and data. Overall aside from mildly panicking, and driving around trying a friend’s cable it wasn’t a huge deal. I am glad it came out of it. Either way Garmin opened an RMA for me if I choose to swap it out.

I may swap it out and see if the new one is as finicky as the old one in terms of ANT connectivity. I have to factory reset every month or so or it gets stuck in “Establishing Connection” and juts sits there for hours.

Interestingly, in regards to another garmin thread going on right now. Tech support admitted garmin express is totally bugged and having big issues. He said they are working on getting them resolved as soon as possible (what customer service rep wouldn’t say this.) He did confirm ANT agent is going away and we won’t have another option.

bumping this…
just did a run on my 910, battery must have been lower than i thought. Put it on charger and went to -1%?!!..after leaving it on charge for about 4 hours, it now says 100% complete, but take it off the charger and it dies. Weirdly it wont turn on in charge mode either UNLESS i keep hitting mode button and then all of a sudden, all the data shows up on the screens like normal.
