Garmin 310XT buttons

Does anyone have an issue with their Garmin 310 buttons? I’ve only had my Garmin since October 2010, and already both the lap and stop buttons are starting to get stuck. I have to hit the buttons in a specific corner in order for them to work, or pop back up to a more normal position. This often leads to not starting/stopping the unit because I thought I had already hit it, but it didn’t actually register. I don’t know if I should send this particular unit back, or if it’s a common nuisance because of the design.

I have used mine daily since Jan 2010 and have never had that issue. I know a few others with the watch for the same length of time and have also not had that problem.

Mines good to go too…got it last may.

never had that problem. got the watch in Nov. 2009. Used it a bunch.

Maybe you should contact Garmin for warranty service…

Yes, both of mine tend to stick, nearly stick, or stay in a much more depressed position. I called Garmin to inquire and they said they hadn’t heard of that problem. Did not send mine in under warranty and will probably regret that later.

my buttons do that too. Also, I’ve lately been having a bitch of a time trying to charge the damn thing. the clip thing doesn’t seem to get a tight enough seal on the two electrodes…I should probably call Garmin.

no problems with almost daily and sometimes multiple uses per day over the last 1.5 years. S/B/R with it and race with it. No problems for me- I would suggest contacting Garmin C Support/

Try cleaning the buttons with some gentle detergent. Really dig deep and clean off the buttons all around. They should start working like new if you can get all the grit off of them.

haven’t hade any stick but have accidently more than once locked the keyboard or had it startup in test mode. The locked keyboard I never can remember what buttons cause it and unlock it sometimes so I just start clicking combos of buttons until it unlocks… Yea I’ve read the manual but I never seem to remember it when it happens usually right in the middle of a run or start of one…

No problem with buttons sticking
.

Sticky buttons, ehh?

(Note…will avoid all the potential jokes here).

Mine is working fine, let us know if you find out what the problem is. Take back where you bought it from and see what they can do for you.

Have had my 310xt since Dec 2009 and have not experienced any problems with the buttons. However over that time I have only done a handful of open water swims wearing the watch (I leave it on my bike during races).

I also have a Polar watch (since 2005) and it is always having problems with the buttons getting stuck. I have sent it back 3 or 4 times to get fixed. However I used to swim several times a week with the Polar, and in Open Water once a week in Summer.

mine were ok until I put it on my cross bike for a few races. Mud got in there and i haven’t managed to clean it yet.

Have been using mine almost daily for 12 months with no sticking buttons or any other issues.

I had this problem with my 305 and returned it just in time. I replaced it with the 310xt.

I’d send it to Garmin.

Had the sticky Lap button this morning. Mine was stuck in a depressed position, but it was not making contact so I was still able to use it on a run. I ran the corner of a sheet of paper around the edges of the button to see if there was any gunk in there from sports drink, sweat or whatever and there was some. Moved to something a bit firmer to try and clear it up and it popped back up. I will try cleaning it like a poster suggested, maybe with a toothbrush, looks like that was the issue in this case.

For what it’s worth, this is my second 310XT after the first one was replaced because of a drop and subsequent shattered screen. First thing I noticed was that the Lap and Start buttons on this one where less “springy” and sometimes harder to push. Never had this issue with the first one (in more than 1 year of use)

had this on my 2nd 310xt.

1st 310 stopped picking up signal, only 3 months old - got a refurb from Garmin customer services. This refurb model about 2 months later started going wrong with the ENTER button stopping from working.

Back to shop bought from and they spoke with Garmin to get me a brand new one, it is a known problem - do not accept a refurb if under warranty!

That’s funny, I had the same experience. My first 310XT was bought new, never had any problems until I dropped it after a race and cracked the screen. Garmin replaced it with a “refurbished” unit. I was riding a few days later and the lap button got stuck (although I didn’t realize it at the time) and my watch started going haywire. Got home, cleaned it out and pried the button up, and all is better now. Strangely, the refurb unit also had a really soft beep that has now normalized once I cleaned the button areas.
