Garmin 305 vs 310xt

Hi,

What are the difference between the 305 and 310xt?
If I don’t swim, is there any advantages for the 310xt?

Thank you.

.

305 should be fine if you don’t swim.
even if you do (open water), it should be sufficient!

+1 for the DC Rainmaker site. That guy has the most in-depth, helpful reviews of GPS watches I’ve ever seen.

advantages of 310xt

  • 20 hours battery life (305: 10 hours. After 3 years of INTENSE use, mine 305 hold charge for 7 hours aprox…)
  • Vibration alarm (good to run with music…i usually missed the sound alert of my old 305)
  • Better control of burned calories
  • Fast scroll and a lot more screens to adjust

Disavantages

  • Price
  • the 310xt don´t have a pace alert: you must configure it in exercise mode, trough your computer (i hated it: with my 305, i liked to use the pace alert in my races). You can adapt the virtual partner to simulate the pace alert too. But is not the same.
  • The little heart rate indicator (in tiny numbers) is missing in 310xt. But it´s a minor problem, since you can configure more screens per exercise mode.

Whell…i´m using my 310xt for 2 months. And used my 305 for 3 year, 6 workouts per week. It still works.

save yourself the time and just go with the 310xt.

its an incredibly nice watch with all the bells and whistles. i have no need for any of the functions on the 310xt, however so i use a garmin 210.

you could go with the 610. just bought it and have been extremely satisfied with it. don’t forget to purchase a heart rate strap with it. I originally didn’t, changed my mind and paid around $50 plus an extra $20 (if i remember right) for the strap.

The optional quick release wrist strap is actually much nicer for the 305. If you plan on running and riding with it, it’s a consideration.
