Does anyone have experience with the Garmin Forerunner 305 Speed Sensor? Does it work well and are there any mounting issues (I have a Soloist). I received a KK trainer for Xmas and want to measure speed while training indoors.
Thanks in advance.

I’ve got it mounted on my QR Seduza using a Cycleops Fluid 2 trainer. It works very well. I’m very glad that I have it. It does take a bit of fiddling to get it to read both the speed and cadence correctly the first time but after that it’s been flawless.
I have it and I think it works great!! If you use it outside I suggest you use it “auto” mode for wheel size which uses the GPS to log miles in stead of wheel revolutions. If you use it indoors remember to set it to “Custom” so it reads the magnet on the wheel. I also have a Cat Eye on my bike and the 305 in either mode reads almost dead on with it in both distance and MPH.

Forgot to mention that I originally had an normal bike computer on my bike alongside my Garmin. But, after awhile I realized that it was redundant to have both and since they always matched up I got rid of the bike computer and have never had a problem with the Garmin after just about a year of use.
I have one hooked up to a Dual and it works like a champ. No problems at all!
If you are riding indoors be sure the gps is turned off or it might get enough of a signal to think its going down a road. I just looked at the “map” of a 2 hour compu trianer session inside a big building in center city Philadelphia and it showed me going in and out of that building in a star burst pattern for about 400 feet in every direction. I knew something was up because sometimes the 305 mph matched the compu trainer mph (working off the magnet on the rear wheel), and other times the two mphs where very far apart (the 305 working off the satellites). Works great. for reasons i dont understand, it EATS batteries- like one a month, plus one every time it rains. so i carry a huge supply of the 2032 batteries, and no problem.
I have to replace the 2032 batteries about twice a year in both my chest straps and bike mounted cadence/speed sensor units (I use the 305 Forerunner and 305 Edge). I think that they are always on and therefore tend to die quickly. If you buy in multi packs at chain discount stores they are fairly cheap. However the two tiny lithium batteries in my Brooks day glow hat with flashing rear red LCD light is a different story ($12 for two batteries once a year). High Tech, High Down Time. Love it, or leave it. Tim
