Any bad review on this brand ?
I did a research and good reviews, but I don’t know anybody that has one.
I’m buying a new cycling shoes and I’m between and Louis Garneau or Gaerne.
Gaerne I have a better deal
tks

I’ve had two friends recently go with the Gaerne shoes for the upcoming season. Right away both of them commented on the fit and how they are much stiffer than their old shoes. I believe they started out with a cheaper model/brand when they got into cycling and these are their first “real” cycling shoe. Dials are BOA, fit is good (unless your feet are wide) and the heal cupped very well. I help setup the cleats on both of them and I was impressed with the initial style and quality of the brand.
That being said I’ve personally owned Garneaus and I liked them quite a bit. I don’t think you can go wrong with either granted your foot isn’t wide or skinny and you have arch support should you need it with orthopedics.
I have a pair and they are great. They do run small, so keep that in mind.
I did need a small shim in mine during fitting but that is not unusual.
I bought my first pair of Gaerne about 1 month ago. I purchased the Kona MTB which has a 2-hole cleat pattern and nice tread to use in Xterra tri’s, which is a difficult tri shoe to find. Very happy, good quality. If I recall, made in Italy (like my new KASK helmet) and quality is good. FYI - I purchased at about 50% below retail from Chain Reaction. They reached my home in New Mexico from Belfast in 6-7 days with free shipping.
I had the Gaerne Chronos and really liked them. After about a year, however, the carbon fiber soles split apart just behind my cleat and Gaerne could not give a **** about it.
I switched to Specialized S-works because they were a little cheaper and more comfortable. Super happy with them. I like how the dials on the s-works tighten and loosen…to loose the Gaernes BOA, I had to released the tension and tighten it up again.
If the Gaerne were a good price, I’d buy them again too despite my previous experience.
I use Gaerne shoes. Love them. Buy them from Chain Reaction on the relative cheap. The first pair fit like a glove and was stiff. The ratchet mechanism did get a bit rusty and now flops around when riding. They are still fully functional. I bought a second pair after getting attacked by some dogs. There was nothing wrong with the shoes other than the aforementioned ratchet and also one of the straps breaking due to the dogs. I have to give the shoes a hell of a lot of praise as I had an aggressive dog latched on my foot with its teeth, and the shoe prevented those teeth from penetrating (same couldn’t be said about my arms and legs). Second pair has been perfect the last 15,000 miles. I’m sold on them.
I have a pair, purchased in 2013. I don’t remember the model, dual Boas, the same kind Cancellara rode that year. Love them. Super stiff sole and they fit like a glove although as I recall they were pretty expensive. The leather split off the sole a bit on one side after I was run off the road by a car at 65 km/h and ended up sliding for ages. I still wear them on the trainer and dry sunny days. Not sure that the dual Boas are great for getting into quickly in a tri but that’s personal preference. If the model you’re looking at compare with mine, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
