Fully zipped top crossing finish line

Was reading athlete guide for IM Chattanooga and noticed that it states that during the bike and run a top can be unzipped to any length as long as the zipper is still attached but when crossing the finish line it must be “fully zipped” ?
Is this new? I knew previously there was the rule about keeping a tip zipped to the breastbone. It seems odd you can have it almost unzipped the entire course.

Security/health concern during race. Let the athlete control his(her) body temperature.
At the finish: moral/public concern. Photos, Event publicity, youth presence, etc… so for pictures and the public at the finish line, zip your upper.
Makes sense.

Moral? Youth presence? is this 1950’s America? Men don’t even wear a top heading to T1. Women are wearing sports bras or swim suits. Not sure how what they’re wearing would be any different than at the local public pool or beach.

I knew you had to have it zipped to breastbone. The fully zipped wording is new to me. And seems specific. Are they going to actually enforce that or it’s just a guideline?

This is more stupid than the sternum rule from years prior.

Going to need the ladies to wear a full length kit too, wouldn’t want to see any ankle at the finish line…

Yeah but you can wear a sports bra and take the whole top off. Now just where to find a manly sports bra. Maybe where the soccer players get theirs.

Yep.

Tim Reed is that you?

Only an issue in america. Naked ladies twerking in every single music video etc. but a normal person opening their T shirt on a hot day, oh no!

If a child cant see a naked grown up, it is not because the child was born like that!. I know this is not your Point of View, but it just makes me sick.

It’s not my point of view.
I said it makes sense (to me even if I don’t agree) an event organiser wants “neutral” pictures on the finish line.
Maybe the organisation provides an “official” photo finish to every athlete.
Maybe they want a neutral, “sports” image to be vehicled around their brand, and not random pieces of skin/hair/etc…
I don’t really care. If I did register that event, I would just follow the rules and zip the thing a few meters before the line.
Come to think of it, I’m sure I would forget it and end up disqualified lol !!
I hope they put a giant reminder sign before the finish line to make sure people don’t forget  .

At 70.3WC 2 people put a hand in my chest and forcibly stopped me because my race number had shifted to the back.

Then at the finish, they told me to zip up. Shocking when women can cross in a sports bra.

Just stupid

Rules aside, act like you’ve been there before and zip up for the finish. It’s the pro move and your sponsors deserve it.

If someone (even a volunteer) physically stopped me for this, I’d be pissed. They can yell a reminder at me, but don’t put your hands on me.

Sure thing. As soon as I get that check from my sponsor /pink

My wife has a video of a French official in Nice jumping in front of a runner and stopping him dead in his tracks because his bib hadn’t been turned around to the front.

This is in addition to them checking that the bib was secured in 3 places causing an hour line for check in, in the sun, a day before a world championship race

If an official tried to stop me I would run right over them

Secured in 3 places? So you can’t use a running belt? That’s the first I’ve heard that rule.

Serious right now. I hate all these PC shit rules that have come up in the past decade. Not even talking about Tri in particular.

Yea it was weird. I put my bib on my usual belt with the two elastic thingies. When I got to gear drop, they insisted on seeing my bib and run belt, and upon seeing only the standard two points of attachment, the guy sighed visibly, reached into his pocket and pulled out a safety pin. He then put the pin through my bib and belt in the middle.

I was yelled at by an official near the turnaround at the airport for not having my bib on the front. I started the run with it in front, but it just naturally worked its way to the back as I ran. It was weird to get actually yelled at for it (vs a friendly request to turn it)

The Pro’s all had running belts.

What I thought was strange was the number of pro’s whose running belts were riding below their crotch, mainly women.
