Fulcrum vs Mavic wheels

So i am getting ready to get some new training wheels. Heard many good things on both Fulcrum and Mavic but have never used any of the 2 before. Anyone who can chime in and share their experiences?

Based on my budget, i am looking at Fulcrum Racing 3 or 5 and Mavic Ksyrium Elite.

thanx in advance.

Mavic made me raise an eyebrow when they started selling their warranties as an add-on to the price of the wheels. I beleive that practice has either been terminated or moved to the very high end wheels, but I thought that was a ridiculous expectation- to sell a customer a $800+ wheelset and then ask them to *buy *warranty service from the factory.

My experiences with Fulcrum and Fulcrum’s big brother, Campagnolo, has been absolutely without issue. I have a set of Campagnolo Eurus, sold under the Fulcrum banner with a different name, that are absolutely indestructable. They are four years old and have been on three frames and hit numerous chuckholes. The rear was trued once. I’m still riding them.

I’ve had great experiences with both Fulcrum and Campagnolo. No real bad experiences with Mavic in fairness to them though.

Both overpriced IMO. Go with some handbuilts or Reynolds or Neuvations or something aloong those lines. No reason to pay that kind of cash for training wheels.

Depending on how you were planning to buy - I’ve seen very, very good prices on Mavics at probikekit.com and very good deals on Fulcrums on 11speed.com.

God bless the Europeans for their lack of price controls. I have no idea what it would do to the warranty, but you could save a couple hundred bucks.

I thought the Mavic MP3 program applied to (a) extending the warranty and (b) providing replacement for any reason, including a crash during a race. Clearly if there are defects in workmanship with the wheel Mavic will cover that under the normal two-year warranty.

That said, I run a set of Ksyrium SSC SL’s on my training bike and a set of ES’s on my Look have had no issues whatsoever.

any experience with the american classic 350 or 420?

i think i am going to get a new c’dale cadd9 and am looking for some solid but relatively light wheels. i guess the same criteria as everyone else.

also, easton ascent II wheel is pretty inexpensive for the weight.

If you’re going to go with Easton, wait. They are apparently doing their own hub designs now that they’ve had time fully incoporate the Velomax folks…

American Classics as supposed to be good wheels, thought they caution about using the Mag wheels as daily drivers.

i think i will go with the AC’s. it will be cool, SRAM, C’Dale, AC, maxxis. Its an all american bike that probably all comes from asia.

I can’t speak for the components but the c’dale comes all the way from Pennsylvania!

Someone needs to start a c’dale mafia…
